2019 15 inch. 2.4/32/1tB/560x (high end in-store configuration) plugged into the LG Ultrafine 24 inch 4k (the one Apple sells).

Downloaded 10.15.5, click to reboot / install. Computer turns off. Will not power on. SMC reset does nothing. Unplug from 4k and plug into Apple power adaptor, no bong. Support call with Apple... she’s dead Jim!

Now, this particular unit did have a top case and logic board replacement in February for a power issue (would die at about 50% battery) but has worked perfectly fine since those parts were swapped out.

Is this just a coincidence or something problematic with 10.15.5. I hope the former for everyone’s sake.

I have a Time Machine backup.

Update: My laptop is now on again following the T2 rival process outlined in this support document

Crazy that I had to do this but at the same time thank you to the MR user who told me what to do!

Great to here. I had a similar issue on a 2017 MacBook with 10.15.4. I had to send it to an authorized repair center because of the Covid shutdown. I’m guessing it was a quick fix once they got around to it.

I have a feeling I'm going to stick with 10.15.3 for a LONG time.
I’ve been using 10.15.5 since the first beta and it has been as stable or more so than 10.15.3.

Yikes, did you have to erase your hard drive?
Nope, Apple Configurator appears to have simply reinstalled / repaired whatever was wrong with the T2 chip and then it booted up normally and finished the update to 10.15.5.

Pretty impressive recovery, actually.

Note that you do need a second computer to do this, I used my 11 year old son's MBP and he was happy to help. Actually, he provides tech support for his 5th grade teacher sometimes!

Been using 15.5 since it came out a few hours ago, it solved my Safari slowdown issues alongside the other UI problems where it stutter all over the god damm place.

So far so good from me.

Wow surprised the article isn't even updated to include the MBP 16" model
