1. Mail has loads of neat features, but I need BCC. It is so rude to send a group email displaying everyone's address in the header (most especially when they don't know each other).

Mail has BCC, you jave to add it from one of the menus each time you want to use it.

What would be a nice is being able to set in the preferences to allow mail to always show the BCC line if one wishes.

I am not supprised we are seeing this update so soon. I think it's major focus is bug fixing. 10.2.2 introduced a lot of strange bugs and behavioral issues. Lots of drivers are not broken and many users are finding that there machines are inexplicable slowing down. USB is one of the problem areas.

Hmmm....firewire upgrade? Could this mean the possibility of Gigawire (Firewire 2) being announced on new Macs? I'm not too hyped up on USB 2.0 tho...I dislike it for a fairly big reason: USB 2 cannot supply power to a drive...you HAVE to have an external power supply for any USB 2 drives

I was reading a review of the new Creative 20GB mp3 player (Stuff Magazine, UK - it's a tech mag, not a w**kmag like in the US) and it has USB2 AND Firewire (4-pin) and the review says it can't charge from the firewire, but CAN from the adapter or USB2 - does this mean they've discovered how to power the drives through USB2 or is charging different?

PS - actually, like it matters, no one's going to buy one... Jan03 = Firewire 2!

I'd have never found it without you, brother^.^ Thanks and thanks again. After searching I did find it in the menus. I guess I didn't look close enough at first. It is a rather common feature to be so out of the way, no?

RE: BCC

Yeah, it's nuts that it is so hard to find. I too found this on some fourm. Apple's help system was of no use (I didn't know you had to use BCC anyway, I just wanted to suppress recipient list). It should be much easier to find. I also miss drag and drop editing, which Eudora had for years. I hate having to cut and past within mail. I'm not using system 6 for godsakes! Forums like this one are a godsend for when Apple's oversights leave users scratching their heads.

10.2.3 Updated components

According to the screenshot posted on macbidouille.com:

the new components are:

prefpanes:
bluetooth, internet, loginitems, sharing, software update and startup disk.

Applications:
Address Book, AppleScript, iChat, Mail, Preview, Sherlock.

Utilities:
Bluetooth, Directory Access, Disk Copy, Disk Utility, Installer, NetInfo Manager, Print Center, Terminal.

Under the hood:
Darwin from 6.2 to 6.3, ATI drivers from 1.2.6 to 1.2.8, nVidia GeForce 2 and 3.

It is possible that Apple will support FireWire 800 pbs and USB 2 since the chipsets are now available.

Can't wait to end of December. Will make a good Christmas gift...

regarding the audio issues, lots of folks are having issues with USB sound cards. lots of pops, clicks in the sound. this seems to be a 10.2.x issue and it's frustrating a lot of the pro audio crowd.

10.2.3 Update

Hi,

Those components (Graphics, Printing, AppleScript, Video, Core Audio, High Level Toolbox, Carbon, FireWire, and USB) were also mentioned, so maybe, the problem will be fixed for good until 10.3.

BCC

It has been my experience as a support person that many people misunderstand and misuse BCC when it's presented to them in the interface. It can also be confusing to the BCC recipient, as well.

That said, I'm glad that BCC and reply-to are available, even if they are a little hidden and not in the main Mail message editing window.

As for drag and drop editing, it IS there. It's just that Apple Mail is a Cocoa application. You are probably most used to drag and drop from Mac OS 9 applications or Carbon apps on OS X. With Cocoa applications, you have to select the text, click on it, hold your click for a moment, and then drag.

Frankly, I find that less intuitive than the Carbon method, so I've submitted feedback on it to Apple's Mac OS X Feedback page. I encourage you to do so, too, because at least we all have a way to tell Apple what we want now.

At the very least, I think both Carbon and Cocoa should be consistent in this respect -- drag and drop of text shouldn't work differently from one application to the next just because of the API set it uses.

Also, my girlfriend and I both use iChat and neither of us have had any difficulty using it every day as a replacement for AOL's OS X client.

My main problem with iChat is that away messages don't work well with standard AOL clients. When I set an away message, people not using iChat (which is everyone on my buddy list) don't see it at all when they send me an IM.

Can't speak for others here, but there is a glitch when recording/sampling @ 22kHz/sec. that renders ViaVoice practically unusable for new installs (basically, ViaVoice samples @ that rate, and the glitch scrambles the audio; this makes VV's 'improve-by-correction-&-analysis' mode non-functional).

This glitch was introduced w/ 10.2, and isn't so bad for anyone who had a reasonably accurate voice model at the time they upgraded. Guys like me, however, who bought MDD-PMs as their first G4s, and THEN tried to install & train ViaVoice - well, it's a different story!

Apple has acknowledged the glitch, tho their work-around reminds me of an old joke ('it hurts when I do that' / 'don't do that!'). It MAY be a problem in the USB Audio kext.

No word if Apple actually plans to fix it, but IBM sez it aint their prob.

The other problem that I have noticed is that when the Audio system is turned on, there is constant "white noise" coming from the speakers. It is very faint, but noticeable and wasn't there in 10.1.x -- it appeared in 10.2.0.

Let me follow that up with mentioning that I think Apple is fantastic. This has been my first year experiencing the Mac. I own large amounts of Apple stock and am looking forward to their new products and think that they are clearly building a very solid foundation for something wonderful!

Go Steve and Apple! Thank you!
