10.3 backup questions

I'm running 10.3.9 on a dual 1 gig MDD g4. I'm about to upgrade to 10.4, but I want to copy all the contents of my single internal HD to an external in case anything goes wrong with the upgrade.

Is it just as simple as copying the files from one disk to the other, or is there a better way?

Download SuperDuper! 2.1.4 right here which will A) run on a Panther Mac and B) enable you to clone your hard-drive over to the other.

With Disk Utility, make sure the external hard-drive is erased and partitioned in Apple Partition Map scheme if you want to make that external drive bootable from on a PPC Mac.

Strange. Try Carbon Copy Cloner then, before wasting too much time on troubleshooting.
