Is it possible to install Mac OS X 10.3 on a current Mac mini?
Definitely. It is the same spec as the original Mac Mini, except for extra memory. I had 10.3 originally on mine, so it will work fine.
Don't install older versions of Mac OS than what comes with your computer
Um... perhaps I should bow to better knowledge.
Bet it still works though!
Having said that... I tried to instal 10.3 on an external drive connected to my Tiger-running eMac today. It didn't get past the boot-up stage after the computer restarted following inserting the intstall DVD... if you know what I mean. Froze on the grey Apple screen. But I think that is because it was a PowerBook copy of Panther, which will only be installed on a PowerBook internal drive. It was to be used on said PowerBook, but wouldn't allow to be installed on an external FireWire drive. Beats me as to why...
What is the oldest version of 10.3 that runs on the Mac mini?
oo-er. I think the originals (Rev. A) shipped with 10.3.7. Has anyone tried anything older?
I can confirm that this is true.
yes all the rev A origianally shipped with panther 10.3
and you should have no problems installing is on a newer one either
wow, what a coincidence: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20060114172122569
