Do you have a core duo, or a core 2 duo?

My guess, the installer DVD you bought was for a totally different chipset (memron or penryn?) and won't work with your older chipset.

The installer discs are supplied in case the owner of the computer wishes to reinstall. They are not designed to upgrade any other machine. That isn't to say it isn't possible, just that upgrading is not what they're meant for.

Since I have a feeling that the OP is going to keep asking for a way around this, I'm going to go ahead and back you up on this yellow. Those discs are only to be used with the computer they shipped with. The information and drivers and such on those discs are hardware specific. Sorry, but you gotta fork over $129 just like the rest of us ;)
