10.5.1 update fails..

When I try to install 10.5.1 I get the following error message after entering my username and password:

The update "Mac OS X Update" can't be saved.

You do not have the appropriate access privileges.

I'm thinking I may have to grant my user account 'root' privileges or similar as I removed the default administrator account and create a new one called "iMac".

Any thoughts on how do fix this?
