10.5.3 on Mac Pro - no sound digital out? Anyone else?

Upgraded to 10.5.3 and suddenly my digital out is no longer working. It'll play fine out of the internal speakers, but nothing at all coming from the digital optical out. Anyone else having the same problem? Any chance someone with an older Mac Pro could test their digital out for sound?

Not trying to state the obvious... so I apologize in advance if you have already done this... but have you gone into sounds in preferences and made sure it didn't default to another setting?

You might have to re-select digital out.

My digital out also works fine on 10.5.3. However, I have had it drop out sporadically since it arrived a couple of months ago, so not a problem specific to this update. Only a restart seems to put it back.

I did two things at the same time, so I'm not sure which one fixed it.

I repaired permissions, which might have been it. More likely, though, it was the app I use to switch between audio sources that sits in my menu bar (posting from work, the name escapes me at the moment) that I disabled. It must not be 10.5.3 compatible.
