On my Penryn MBP, any changes to system settings, as well as other things that apps remember seem to get reset on every reboot. It wasn't always like this, but at some point it started, and now, I cannot change system settings in a way that survives a reboot.

I already found another thread that said to restore the permissions, which I've done.

Any other ideas where I could look?

Found the solution. My ~/Library/Preferences/ folder somehow had extended security information. Once I ran a chmod -N on it, things started working again. No idea how this happened though.
