I normally do the automatic software update but I'm debating doing the combo update this time. I currently have 10.5.5. A few questions first:

1. Would the 10.5.6 combo update include every single thing since the release of Leopard? For instance if someone had 10.5.1, could you go straight to 10.5.6 with a combo update?

2. Is there any more of a risk doing a combo update from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 versus the regular automatic update?

3. Do I simply download the file, click and install it?

Now the reason as to why I want to do the combo update. I am getting several warnings that don't get fixed when I repair permissions. I have looked them up and they seem to be normal but still bother me. I have heard that sometimes getting the combo update can resolve the permission problems. The combo update just seems to be a bit 'cleaner'.

Let me know what you think.

So in general-so which is more of an advantage to your computer (assuming all system requirements etc are met)- the COMBO which is 669m vs the 'Delta' that my SU wants to use @337m?

The combo update can fix problems that were caused by the single installer from Software Update. If you are suffering from problems because of the update, try the combo.

I think I need to borrow this thread if OP doesn't mind..:)

My macbook has already been updated to 10.5.6 through software update, however some issues occurred and make me what to try out the combo update.

My question is, can I still use combo update despite it's already been updated through software update? If I can, is it going to take more hard drive space using combo update?

Thanks

Duff-Man says....yes, you can apply the combo update even when you are already at the latest revision, in fact re-applying the combo updater is a common trouble shooting technique. It shouldn't take up any real noticeable difference in drive space, unless of course if you keep the downloaded combo update as it is a little large....oh yeah!

Thanks matey..

My bluetooth was disappeared after 10.5.6 update and I have to reset the SMC to solve this problem..
Which makes me a little bit disappointed especially because I chose Mac over PC due to its stability.
Can anyone give me some advises if I should install the combo update in order to eliminate potential problems? (The system is so far so good after SMC reset, fingercrossed)

The combo update contains all changes since the original OS release. So it is safer in covering any changes that may have been made to your OS in the interim, such as by applications or by accident.

So I would definitely recommend applying it as a first step..

Cheers mate,
one last question, is the combo update going to erase my current preferences?
or there will be nothing changed?

Bluetooth disappeared too

Did the Combo update solve your issue with bluetooth disappearing? I use both a bluetooth mouse and bluetooth headset to listen to iTunes so it's not a nice thing to not have bluetooth working...

Kiz

I solved the problem before I install the combo update..
Basically you just need to reset your SMC then the bluetooth will be back..
Good luck..:)
