Since there were no obvious guides on this, just thought I would make an update.

In order to follow any of the current jailbreaking guides, you must have a USB Hub or you must download an Automator script. This goes for ALL Macs, not just the new unibody ones.

However, it appears that the USB hubs are hit or miss for most people. So, if you have a USB Hub that worked, post it's make/model so that other people can find a working one.

I used the hub that came with RockBand 1 on my Wii.

I HAVE NOT TRIED THIS SCRIPT MYSELF, USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. IT MAY CAUSE PROBLEMS WITH YOUR COMPUTER, ESPECIALLY IF YOU OWN A UNIBODY MAC.

Instructions for use can be found <link removed>*

Make sure you follow all directions and understand risks before using this tool.
The automator script can be found <link removed>*

I hope someone found this useful, as it was stated (at least to my knowledge) in any of the guides I followed.

EDIT: Removed links, if you really want to take the risk, you can find them.

I have a late-2007 aluminum iMac. A week after installing this, NO keyboard or mouse would work (wired or wireless.) I ended up having to reinstall Leopard. Others had the same issue. I really don't recommend doing the above method.

Thank you for the input, I will remove it. The USB Hub method sounds much safer.

Great thread. I'm on the jailbreaking fence and need a little more clarification.

Is it confirmed that using WinPwn in XP through boot camp is an active workaround to the issue?

I have not tried it, but it should work. The only reason that DFU no longer works is because the 10.5.6 update doesn't allow for iTunes to see DFU iPhones.

I don't think that iTunes for windows has seen this (yet).

That's what makes sense about the whole thing. I don't mean to take away from the validity of your thread by asking about windows xp.

Nope... Bootcamp is an option that will probably help someone.

Exactly. I hate windows, and I don't even have bootcamp set up on my Early '08 MBP...but I'm willing to set up the partition and give it a go if it's a viable option.

Techically, would the following plan work...?

    1. Load XP through bootcamp.
    2. Use winpwn to jailbreak the phone
    3. Load OS X 10.5.6
    4. Use iTunes to sync up music and contacts

I have a USB hub on the way, but if it doesn't work with the newest leopard, then I'm thinking about going the windoze way

Installing XP on bootcamp and following the corresponding guides should work. I've never tried it, so this is only speculation.

Ok, I'll stop bugging ya :)

I'd be interested to know if anybody has had luck with unpowered usb hubs.

I'm on 10.5.6 and I plugged my iPhone into my MiniStack V2, ran pwnage and DFU was successful. Hope this helps.
