10.6.2 - Eternal Beachball of Doom

I had the same problems, i had to reinstall, and then re apply the update. It was a total hassle. But now it seems to be ok. 🙂
 
Fresh install, full Apple updates, leave enough empty space on your hard drive, use flash blocker.
