Hello, MacRumours.

My mid '08 iMac started having problems, and it got worse gradually. Now, OS X takes forever to load and, when it does, crashes in a heartbeat.

I can still use Windows XP (Boot Camp) normally, so I think all I need is to reinstall OS X.

However, I've lost my 10.6 installation DVD.

I know you can get the DMG image of the disc, but I can't burn dual layer DVDs.

I know you can put the DMG into a USB flash drive with Disk Utility, but I can't use OS X.

How can I put the DMG into a USB flash drive on Windows?

Thanks in advance. ;-)

Try the following before re-installation.

1. Reset PRAM and SMC
2. Reboot, holding down Command+S (for single user mode)
3. at the command prompt type in fsck -f
4. when fsck has finished, type in exit
5. Boot into OS X (should be much more reliable)
6. start Disk utility
7. Repair Permissions
8. Enjoy your fixed Mac OS X
