However, I'm very happy that Apple is including some nicer images. I didn't like the Auroras at all. Not that it matters that much, it's one of the first things I change on my Macs. ;)

I have to strongly agree with that one. It was the last real Aqua wallpaper, the sort that was used since the release of 10.0. People claimed that 10.5 Leopard was a "combo breaker" wallpaper. It departed with the tradition due to the fact that it represented a move away from an aqua interface. Originally Apple toyed with a grass wallpaper, although I recall some chuckling during a live demo at the WWDC due to its resemblance to a wallpaper that comes pre-bundled with Vista. They then settled on an outer space theme. Since Snow Leopard was a polished-up version of Leopard, it too had a space theme. For 10.7, we can expect something different.

With Lion, we're seeing a revamped version of aqua, actually, instead of a movement away from it. Example: The blue "pill" buttons are now simply blue rectangle buttons with smoother gradients, while many people thought we'd be seeing the color blue disappear almost entirely. I think it would be good on Apple's part to sort of give Lion another go for a blue, Aqua-themed wallpaper, albeit with some modern touches. I think it would make lots of long-time Mac fans like myself very happy.

I've got to admit the Aqua themed wallpapers have always been my favorites. I'd love to see an updated one in Lion but I'm not expecting it.

I've grown to HATE those wallpapers. I think they're ugly and look dumb. My hatred spans from seeing them for the last like 5 years on all the Mac's that my school has and having them always freeze (my school's Mac's suck) and having only that ugly wallpaper being displayed.

Point of wallpaper especially if you stack on it is to be neutral in luminance and contrast.

Those new wallpapers are lovely images but they either burn or "talk" too much to be work oriented wallpapers. Beautiful pink forest like pink mountain are the ones to avoid, you dont want to look at whole pink screen more than few hours. There are couple of that have very bright spots either in the corner or on the bottom contrasting darker tones so your eye always wonders to light portion. That only works if light is centered.

For my purposes perfect wallpaper is blue aurora from Server. Gets the job done.

they should go for animated wallpapers with subtle movements, imagine that lion drowling on your dock once in a while

I'm boring. Wallpapers are something I couldn't care less about.
