10.7 server GUI gone!

my client runs 10.7.latest server on an xserve.
although all services work, i have no gui - it crashes on login. the only way i can interact with the box is via server.app or terminal on another box! very dangerous situation which i need to fix!

i need help in how to get the gui back! havent tried reinstalling os. any unix gurus out there care to take a look? theres possibly money in it!!
