Terrible...

It's a real shame they changed it... I have thousands of video files that I can't quick look anymore... First time I've thought about changing back to PC in years...

i saw some posts on how to get quick look supported with various codec.
it says 'proapps quicktime codecs' requiring 'final cut pro x' fix it.
i've installed both final cut and codecs though, nothing has changed.
avi formatted video file still has no image, no quick look play.

Nothing we can do about it until apple changes or updates Finder's core framework.

Just some more evidence of Apple abandoning the pro market, and forcing us to go in the direction they believe we should, like using H.264 - a codec that is not at ALL suitable for digital video production!!

I did some quick research, here is a complete list of Quicktime friendly codecs that are not supported in AVFoundation (I did not compile this):
Cinepak (“Compact Video”)
Animation (“RLE” )
Video (“Road Pizza”)
Graphics (“SMC”)
Sorenson Video
Sorenson Video 3
Motion JPEG A
Motion JPEG B
H.261
Windows RAW
Microsoft Video 1
Pixlet
MACE 3:1
MACE 6:1
QDesign Audio
QDesign Audio 2
1-bit Indexed-Color RGB
2-bit Indexed-Color RGB
4-bit Indexed-Color RGB
8-bit Indexed-Color RGB
16-bit Direct-Color RGB
1-bit Grayscale
2-bit Grayscale
4-bit Grayscale
SGI
MacPaint
BMP
FLC
FlashPix
JPEG 2000
PDF
Photo CD
PNG
TGA
TIFF
Blit Codec

Not to mention DNxHD, Photo-JPEG (and I'm assuming many others) that are extensively used by professionals like myself...

However, I'd like to point out that OSX really likes ProRes - which, as stated by someone in a diff forum:
...is a multi-threaded codec, so it will be processed by multiple cores. Using ProRes as your source will yield appreciably faster renders and transcodes if you have a system with a lot of cores at its disposal.

So I guess I'll be switching to ProRes now...

QuickTime and its legacy codecs are deprecated, sadly. Yes, Apple is pushing the AVFoundation because it is in both iOS and OS X. QuickTime and QTKit will still work on 10.9, but there's no guarantee that it will in the future.

Also, to my knowledge, there is no way to add codecs to AVFoundation yet.

Why is H.264 not a suitable codec for digital video production??
