I don't think I'd ever want one. The screen is just way too small for me. I can see the appeal of a machine such as this though. A relative has one of the Toshiba ultra slim laptops (10" I think, not sure which model etc) and it always amazes me when she pulls it out of her handbag. It is also REALLY REALLY light, which I think is important...cmon apple, i wanna see the 15" MBP go on a diet - max 500g. :p

I am really hoping that Apple puts one out this year. My 12" PowerBook just died and I am hoping to replace it with someting like this. I think the current Sony sub-notebook has a 11.3" screen, 60GB hard disk, dual-layer DVD burner built-in, weighs 2.3 LBS. I really liked it's size and the screen was very readable.

at around 2.3 lbs, a laptop like this would cost $2000 dollars or so, but to keep it in the ibook price range, adding an extra pound to 1.5 lbs, which is not that much more, would put the components in a far more affordable range where a 3.3 pound laptop would be maybe $1299-$1499 and a 3.8 pound laptop $999-$1099, but prices always come down and it depends when apple introduces the new, probably lighter ibook

of course, one day a 2.3 lb. laptop will be a thousand dollars, but machines like this are still pricey...at a certain point, you can't get too small with the screen and keyboard and some cellphones have already hit the smallest practical size they can achieve without the user yelling into the unit

Honestly, is the extra 1" that annoying? I can imagine having a smaller laptop, but I can't imagine it being necessary. It's small enough, IMO.
No, but if it went to 11" or 13", the 11 would be cheaper and more portable.
