Hello,
I have just made the leap of faith..went from Snow Leopard (yes,I've been on that system for the past 5 years and loved every minute of it) to El Capitan. Here is mid-2010 macbook pro. So I installed a new SSD and 8GB RAM for good measure too. And yes, IT FLIES! I am really happy to have skipped all the versions in-between and find some of the features in this system - split screen particularly - cool. For my line of work and incredibly important feature.
Now I have about 10 questions I need help with.

1. FINGER GESTURES - I am used to my old finger gestures setting from Snow Leopard - e.g. three fingers left- go back, three fingers right - go foward etc. Is there a way how to set this up in El Capitan too? Under trackpad in system preferences, that seems not to be possible anymore.

2. Dictionary App - great. But in this version, in order to jump from entry to another, now a quick double- click doesn't work anymore. Instead you need to wait with the cursor a bit before the jumps is made. Is there a way to change this? (people, I use this app literary almost all the time..this is no small issue for me)

3. Dictionary App - again! Is there a site that you download or add other dictionaries too? Any recommendation? Specially I am looking for English dictionary with plenty of synonyms, antonyms etc.

4.Finder - Tags> when I tagged an item (a folder or a file), the whole line was highlighted with that tag's color. This was very useful, I could find important stuff immediately. Now, once you tag an item, only a small all of the tag's color appears next to it. I find this disorienting and don't like that. Any way to change that?

5.Maps in google give my transit options for my country. Maps app in El Captian cannot do it. Why?

6.Split screen: my Windows Office for Mac 2011 cannot do splitscreen. How about Office 2016?

Well I said about 10 questions..but it turns out it's just 6 now:).

It doesn't provide public transit because Apple is using its own software since iOS 6 and therefor there is only public transit in a couple of cities around the world.

Note that the 'couple' of cities is as follows:
  • Baltimore, MD
  • Berlin, Germany
  • Boston, MA
  • Chicago, IL
  • China
  • London, England
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • Mexico City, Mexico
  • New York City, NY
  • Philadelphia, PA
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Sydney, Australia
  • Toronto, Canada
  • Washington, DC

Yep, that's nothing. Google is in this regard much better.

Three fingers for going forwards and back in what? For safari, it's 2 fingers, in the OS as a whole, 3 finger left and right is to swipe between desktops

You might try the demo for PopClip. It has over 100 extensions (free) you can add. One of the extensions is for the Dictionary. You highlight the word you want and select Dictionary. There are multiple dictionaries you can select. look on the Extensions page for all the apps for Dictionary that are available.

I thought this was more for newbies since I know the shortcuts for copy/paste etc, but It is so easy to use that I really enjoy having this app. My most used extension is the paste = command to remove formatting.

Well in Finder...for example too, I could use three fingers to go forward and back....(go back in menus etc.).
As for two fingures, somehow they are not as responsive..I've been trying to use that but it's not how I like it..used to have it.

Wait, no Baghdad or Karachi? Now I can't go vacation there...

If you also want the old way (non-iPhone) way of scrolling based on your description,

2. Not sure what you mean...?

3. Try this: http://clasquin-johnson.co.za/michel/mac-os-x-dictionaries/index.html (at your own risk regarding accuracy and stuff)

4. I don't think you can do that from the stock Finder. It seems to be behaving this way to accommodate multiple tags per file.

5. Just like in iOS, Transit in Maps is only available in certain cities so far. They are expanding their database so you really have to use third-party options for now.

6. Yes, Office 2016 supports split-screen very nicely.

Hi, i just got done reading one of your previous posts when you were getting ready to do the upgrade to El Cap.
Can you tell me how you did it ? I'm getting ready to upgrade a friend's 2010 Mac Mini from Sno Lepp to El Cap, along with 8GB of memory and a new SSD to replace the old 320GB hard drive. They use an external drive enclosure for Time Machine backups. I'm just wondering.....

1) Did you do a clean install of El Cap onto the SSD and use migration assistant, or restore from TM backup ?
2) or did you do an upgrade install of El Cap on the HDD and then clone it to the SSD?
2) How did your iTunes, movies (iMovie), and photos from iPhoto transfer over? Any issues with the new versions of Photos and iTunes messing things up?

Thanks!
