The app icons work just like in the dock; you either open the app from there or more likely, you select a bunch of files in the folder you’re in and drag them onto the app icon to open them. That’s faster than dragging down to the dock or right-clicking and choosing from a list of options.

So, dragging a bunch of icons UP to the app in the toolbar is faster than dragging the same icons DOWN to the app in the dock? Good to know.:oops::rolleyes:

Wow. I've been a Mac user since 1996. I worked for the Apple Store (2004-2009) and immersed myself in all things Apple ever since - and there are a number of items here completely new to me. I'd highly recommend coming out with a helpful video on each one - these tips are great!

If anyone figures out how to bring up a specific System Setting like General or Passwords via keyboard shortcut let me know
Right Click on the System Settings Icon in the Dock, then you can pick exactly which panel you want from the pop-up menu. The top level General panel is not listed as an option though. :)

The green button maximize function in any window is REALLY stupid; it hides the dock and the file menu at the same time. What Apple really needs to do is to add the option in System Settings to make windows maximize the window like MS Windows does or have it go full screen like it currently does.

There's a workaround to this boneheaded execution, thankfully, by using an app called 'BetterTouchTools'.... but whats nice is that it can let you drag windows to the corners or sides and instantly make them 1/2 or 1/4 the size of the your screen.

Option-click green button maximises the window without going fullscreen.

That's inconsistent and unpredictable; not all apps maximize, some only go large enough to fill a portion of the screen. The whole execution of the green button is stupid. Microsoft did it right... and Apple with all their UI glory, can't do it right? WTF man.

I saved this article because I wanted to go through and learn most of it:
I thought I knew already many tips but not several of these
Kudos who wrote this one /MacRumors❤️!

i fail to understand how it can be super useful

would u mind sharing a screenshot of your finder pls ? genuinely curious
so I learned about this and the one use case I have for is for an app called "ImageOptim" (it tries to reduce image sizes). I put it in my finder window and now from anywhere I'm browsing files, I can drag an image/photo on to it and just resizes it. 👏

Does anyone know how to make column view in Finder behave? It is quite often adding a huge about of column width, way beyond the actual content in the list. I know I can drag it into place but why doesn't it automatically size each column to fit the content within that column?

Via column view in finder, right-clicking gives the option to "right size" columns either individually or equally

btw did you add blur with quicktime ? i use pixelmator but it takes me quite a lot of time tbh lol

I've been using the free app Skitch (App store) for and it has easy screenshot, crop, markup, and blur features. It's super easy to use and its free! Its' good for quick stuff like this!

Thanks again for those wonderful, also a Mac Power User and I didn't know half of those tips!
