Purchased the base rMPB 15" a month after it came out. Had to replace screen because of LG IR, got a Samsung, lived happily afterwards with it. Perfect laptop, 8GB of RAM is more than enough for anything including heavy graphic work and gaming on bootcamp.
I am rather OCPD oriented, so it's still in new condition. I love it. Will probably upgrade when they release something like 15 inch pro that weighs like an Air which was 15". If you know what I mean, but probably not until a few years later.

as minor as it was, the macbook pros were spec-bumped less than three months ago. they even carry the "new" tags in the online apple store. i wouldn't bet on an update at wwdc this year.

I agree with your assessment that it would be unusual for them to upgrade the rMBP so soon after the recent specification bump 3 months ago. But I do still believe we will see some kind of rMBP upgrade at WWDC even if it's not Haswell.

Only with intel apple works in terms of cpu and gpu integrated so..only haswell upgrade can be.

I meant upgrades in other areas. Improvements to the display quality, more battery life, newer graphics etc it doesn't only need to be an upgrade to the CPU architecture.

It all depends what is ready at the time of the announcement. Maybe Intel will surprise us by allowing Apple to release a Haswell notebook in July if they announce it at WWDC in June. Anything could happen :D

In terms of design no news will be. But all macbook line up will get up to 9 h battery and for the air11" that will get 7h usage, maybe they will get rid of the dedicated graphic card if the HD5200 will be equal with 650M and that means light MacBooks, a better cpu by 10-15% i think. So overall nice upgrade. I mean if they do a macbook pro 15" that has 4 pounds heavy and with 9h battery life...for me it is a must have for day by day

I just don't see them updating the retinas so soon after tge last spec bump.. I bet closer to holiday season they will throw has well in the rmbps.

Mmm, this thread makes me excited for June. I will most likely hold out for Anandtech's review first, however.

The MacBook Pro page on Apple.com carried the "New" tag 5 minutes after the retina MacBook Pro was announced, and before the refreshed cMBP was updated.

Expect it to say "New" until they refresh it, when it will say "new" again.

like i said a big upgrade (not design) we will can buy in maxim august, i hope for july if they announce the upgrades in june.

I bought the 2.3Ghz/256GB/16GB ram model back in August .. Luckily I got one with a Samsung screen .. Never encountered any problems (ghosting, flickering) with the screen ..

It's super fast, it has a gorgeous screen and it's comfortable enough to carry around considering its screen size .. Best laptop I've ever owned :)

i think now when you buy something from apple is like at lottery ..yes i got the samsung display..and not the other one..is kind of shame but i guess now the problems are solved for someone who will buy a macbook now

The rMBP is the best laptop I have ever owned.

A few months ago, IR started coming on my LG display. But I brought it in the Apple store immediately; they fixed it and gave me a perfect Samsung display within 10 hours (it was VERY quick).

Other than that everything has been smooth as butter since Mountain Lion (in the beginning, things were a bit sluggish with Lion).

App support for the retina display is also great.

But yea, CPU is fantastic, dGPU is capable, SSD is incredibly fast, RAM is great too (and I only got the 8GB). Battery life is as advertised as long as you keep it in iGPU mode. And best of all, the new design and the display are magnificent.

Excuse my ignorance, but what do you call iGPU mode?

I had mixed feelings about my rMBP. Mine was a 2.3GHz/16GB RAM/256GB SSD configuration.

Likes:
- Form factor
- Slimness
- Screen
- Different sound when fans are on high
- USB ports on both sides
- 2 x Thunderbolt ports

Disklikes:
- Lag (this one was a deal-breaker for me)
- The extra AU$250 I had to fork out to upgrade the RAM to 16GB as it's soldered on (but that's the price you pay for new non-upgradeable tech)
- Magsafe 2 (not a big deal but I personally didn't think it was necessary if they're still using USB ports which are almost the same dimensions)

I found that connecting the rMBP to an external monitor while the Mac was closed was the best setup. But it defeats the purpose of having such a nice screen.

I can deal with slightly less 'crisp' resolution but I think personally I'm not a big fan of stuttering and lag.

I sold my rMBP after 4 months and got a top-spec MBA. I miss the extra Thunderbolt port on the rMBP and the overall processing/graphics speed (minus the lag) so I'm hoping they bring out something good this year. My MBA does lag sometimes too, but $1000 more in my pocket is definitely nicer to have :)

If Apple follows its usual pattern with MacBooks, the next generation will be a very refined, well designed model. At least that's been my experience over the years. The first gen is decent, the second gen is really outstandingly.

I bought the first gen this year just to experience the retina display. But I'm very eager to replace it with a second gen unit if Apple doesn't screw it up. The gushing reviews of various web sites are heavily biased towards pleasing Apple. Therefore before I decide, I'm waiting for real world reviews from those here who buy one.

overall i'm happy

though im pissed at thunderbolt.. and the only reason i like the two thunderbolt ports is the ability to add two monitors + 1 from the hdmi, i don't feel like i'm using the MBPR to its full potential.

I was glad I thought I had a good one. After reading all the issues from lagging to ghosting that others were having, I was relieved. It did not last though, starting a about 2 months ago I have been to the apple store more times than I can count. Ive had to ship my mac out to texas. It is on its 3rd lcd screen and the logic board has been replaced. Now Im having strange flickering and start up/ shut down issues. Im asking apple for another mbpr tomorrow.

Fantastic notebook. Best portable workstation I've ever owned.

-P

I have to agree, it's my first laptop bar a first gen Asus EEE pc. It's been invaluable to me and my studies.

Kinda half regret not getting a 13" Mac Air and a maxed out 27" iMac though.
Still it does everything I need it to, and it does it extremely well.

Complements my windows desktop well. :D

Superb, first laptop I've ever bought with the intention of using as my primary desktop machine too (usually buy a new top-spec Windows desktop at least every year). Ordered day after announcement, been perfect ever since. Now sitting watching TV browsing the net as usual. Not having to sync between machines, worry about where the data is, and all that sort of thing doesn't exist. Screen still the standout feature of the machine, usually use 1920x1200 or 2880x1800, and as a desktop use a Dell 30" (external keyboard, mouse, speakers, headphone/mike connected to that) and TB ethernet.

There's still nothing else to touch it for this application. All the current allegedly "ultrabooks" are still maxing out at 256Gb SSD, which is fine for light use but not a fat lot of use if you do a lot of stuff on the computer. I've just had a sweep of the disk and there's just about 100Gb each of photos, videos, emails, websites, and apps on here, with about 50Gb of documents. Add on VMs for XP (some business applications I need), Windows 8 (a couple of games), and Linux, sits pretty comfortably on the SSD. Any less wouldn't be enough.

Love mine, too. It’s fast, its display is just GORGEOUS, it lasts a long time on battery, it’s dead quiet usually… just all around awesome.

Had mine since ~1mo after announcement.

Great machine. Easily the best laptop I've used.

And I use it as my day to day machine. Desktop replacement etc... Works great.

I had a trackpad go south, the clicker stopped working, took it to the local apple store, they replaced it overnight, and I was back on my way.

I think I still use 1 non-retina app. It doesn't sink in how good the screen is until I sit at my 27in iMac. And I can see the difference.
