Donate it to a charity and use it as a tax write-off.

He's 15...probably doesn't pay taxes yet. :) But I second..or is is it third/fourth the idea of donating it. Erase the HD and install Pather, fresh. Many people could get good use out of it.

Or, you could gut it for parts and sell them. Keep the case and do the fish tank conversion mentioned above.

There's plenty of things I use my old eMac for. I use it as a file server for my other Macs. It makes a great, simple web server to test out sites on. You could use it as an FTP server to access files remotely (school, maybe?).

I've moved on to a bigger, better machine. But I still don't discount my old G4's usefulness.

As the other posters said, maybe try reinstalling the OS. Maybe you'll find new joy. Maybe a G4 won't do it for you anymore.

But hell, don't just destroy it for the sheer pleasure of it. There's plenty of people out there less fortunate than us who would love to have a computer. Any computer.

Just some food for thought.

Reinstall it and put it on Craig's List or something. EMacs might be undesirable to many but they're pretty desirable for a lot of people. They're generally quite cheap for the performance (i.e. compared to G4 iMacs and iBooks), they're generally not badly specced and they're all in one, which is a plus to a lot of people.

I've seen first gen eMacs go for $175 on eBay. If you'd rather smash it up than give it to charity or make money off of it then fair enough. It'd be a great waste of a lovely machine though if you did so.

i just bought an emac and i love it!

definately keep it. there is no better thing than having a second mac in case your imac breaks. you can get email, browse the web for help, finish work and listen to music.

if you don't have a second mac you're so lost.
