I recently purchased a new 6th gen iPod Touch. Wi-fi and bluetooth enabled. No apps downloaded except a battery one. Background app refresh off. I went from 100% at 4 pm EST to 64% at 9 am the next morning without touching the iPod. How is this possible?!?!

I want to blame the Facebook app even though you said you didn't DL any other 3rd party apps besides that, one. :p

Are you sure it was really new, as opposed to a used one that ended up getting passed off as new?

Was it restoring photos or apps from a backup? Had you just installed an update?

No. It was purchased simply to use as a remote for my home theatre system. No third party apps. Set up as new.

The IPod touch comes with a smaller battery than the IPhone to begin with. You must take certain steps to get the most out of your battery.

Here's what I do. Keep your screen brightness at 25-50%. Always keep Bluetooth off. When not using wifi, go to airplane mode. In settings, Turn off app refresh. Turn off spotlight search. Turn off location services, these are battery killers when on.

When you are not using your IPod touch. Turn it off, Not sleep mode, totally off. Like all lithium batteries if you get it below freezing in winter the battery will lose power quickly. It's only a temporary problem until it warms up.

When the battery is down to 20%, you can still go another half hour, before it turns off. It's good to run it down once a month to keep the cycle limber. Also it's ok to use it while plugged in, but don't just leave it plugged in all the time.

known issue.. not a defective unit. Apple really screwed the battery in favour of slimness for the IPT.

Enjoy the thin form factor... and charge frequently.

We are such a minority still using the ipod touch that i don't see so much people complaining about this issue sadly.
