I guess not enough people are requesting those things. :(

Millions of people could be requesting features but right now everything takes a back seat to the wedge that is the holy trinity of iTunes, iPod and iTMS. Functionality is being sacrificed on the altar of media distribution.

Yeah, I guess you're right. Still makes me sad that iTunes is the app with the most potential and every update is almost always untouched. At least they integrated streaming to more than one AE (which should've been there from day one though). The funny thing is that they don't even advertise a huge feature like that. Apple's weird sometimes.

You know how often I submit feedback for iTunes...?
I have more features that would be awesome to have and have been submitting them for almost a year now...

That's good to know. I do it quite often too. The ability to lock playlists or as I'd like it, the whole library I feel is important. Other people use my computer and go into iTunes, etc. without me knowing. Just a simple lock icon to prevent songs being trashed would be nice to have, and it could be enabled/disabled in the preferences so those who want it have the option.

But syncing different bit-rates to your iPod would be such a great feature. I didn't realise the shuffle did this. I'm surprised that Apple haven't included this for all iPods as well.

Apple had a dedicated iTunes feedback page but now it is only to request new music.
But you can still send via the general feedback link.

thanks. i have always wanted some of those previously listed features...but didn't know where to let them know. this will probably become a weekly habit of mine now. at least i'll have the piece of mind that i'm giving them a piece of my mind.

Hehe, you're welcome. I'll do it regularly. :) Maybe some of my wishes come true in 7.0, although it'll probably some "mini store" addition only...

I don't think this is Itunes related but I wished that when I put the Ipod on hold, the screen would turn off since you don't need it anymore. That would be in a firmwire update, not an Itunes update?

it would be and iPod software update actually. ;)

Aac 192kbps

If you want a lot of CDs with good sound then just use the AAC encoder at 192 kbps. It sounds fine. Anything above 192 kbps is not that noticeable to me. As for a 100 GB iPod. They might so that if they come out with a "true" Video iPod. I say this because the one now is just called the "iPod" and not the iPod Video. They will probably make one with a bigger screen and possibily a bigger drive.

I put the iPod on hold to avoid unintentional movement of the click wheel. I certainly wouldn't want the screen to turn off.

audiophiles, gasp all you want, my libary is encoded at 128kbps mp3 GASP! :p The real problem is that i don't have a large HD (40gb) or iPod (20gb) so really im forced to live smaller..;) I honestly can't notice any difference whatsoever on my iPod, stereo, or computer speakers, so why waste unnecessary space?

However...

If Apple released anything above 80gb in an iPod that would be so awesome. Besides a huge music library you could fit whole movies and not need to carry around DVDs anymore..just a jack to hook up to your TV and bam. That is of course if they increase the resolution of movies the iPod is capable of. Until they do that, i don't really see a need for 100gb iPods at this time. The resolution has to be there before people load movies on these and buy them up.

Most people don't have 3000 CDs, most people don't even fill their 4Gb iPod minis, certainly if you were going to buy enough songs to fill 100Gb from the iTunes Music store it would cost you thousands of dollars, also people listen to the iPod on the street, the underground etc and you are not going to notice the difference between mp3s and lossless there, plus again most people won't ever notice the difference in any setting...so I don't see the need for apple to push for more capacity, the should look into better battery life , wireless etc etc.

let me say something. there's something called a powerbook (or macbook pro whatever you want to call it)

it can now hold up to 120 gb of your favourite music. if you want that kind of harddrive, the powerbook is the way to go.

There's little demand for the 60gb models. Most people don't need or want that much capacity.

Not true.

The 60 gig models outsold the 40 gigs this holiday season.

Given that video content seems to be selling well, I think they will go to 80GB at the next revision.

I agree.

Folks need to remember that Apple is a business, and while they spend a lot of time thinking about great products, they also spend a lot of time thinking about how to get as much money out of you as they can.

The 80 gig iPod was not released because it is the maximum drive capacity available in the market for the foreseeable future and Apple needs somewhere to go to upgrade the current 5G iPods. In six months, we'll see a 60/80 gig combo to take us through the new school year. And people like me who have filled their 60 gig will upgrade. Apple now gets 2x the money from me.

I think the video store will push more capacity, and we'll see HD based iPods through mid 2007. Then Samsung should have enough capacity of the 32gig SIMMS--yes SIMMS- and we'll see 120+ gig iPods in new form factors. 2007 is going to be a great year for the 7G(?) iPods.

I just officially filled my 60gig 5G ipod to the brim today...:(
I've been ripping at 320 AAC because when I first started ripping CDs, I got anal and judged different sampling rates through a MOTU 828 firewire audio interface in my dad's studio on several thousand dollar studio monitors. Of COURSE I heard the difference between sampling rates in there. Would I be able to hear the difference on my home stereo (which gets streaming audio from an Airport Express)? Probably not. Now I kind of wish I would have just ripped at 192.
I mean, I'm OK with leaving a handful of albums off of my ipod, but I really did kind of end up wasting space.
Oh, how I long for the day when gigs of storage are a dime a dozen and we have enough space to fit a lifetime's worth of 24 bit audio onto our "everything AND the kitchen sink" ipods. :p

And over the rest of the year? When people aren't making large spontaneous purchases? And in comparison to the Nano or Shuffle?

You can just re-rip the CD. iTunes will tell you about the album already existing in your library, and will give you the option to "Replace Existing" cancel, or "Don't Replace". If you click "Replace," it will re-encode the tracks, and simply replace the old file with the new, keeping all playlists and library info intact.

too bad it only does this for the shuffle. i don't see why this option isn't standard all across the iPod line, then my whole library would be lossless or 320 and i could downcode to 128 for my ipod.

any way to make iTunes thing you have a reeeeeeaaaaallly big ipod shuffle? ;)

Since I import in Lossless this would be an invaluable feature for me. Please Apple, please.

100GB iPod already here

At iPodmods.com, the 100GB iPod modification is already under way, using that particular Toshiba Hard drive. The mod can be installed on a current 80GB iPod with no cosmetic changes, or you can soup up the 30GB, but it requires a new back panel in able to make it fit. All in all, for those of you who max out the storage capacity with music and videos (myself included), its a great step to take to keep your library down to one device...for now. (The new HD should be rated at about 25000 songs or 125 hours of video using the Apple standard)

:)
