Looks interesting................ but want to see real person reviews. That BF "review" looked more like an ad.

cheers

Hello,

I can't believe that BF didn't compare that USB3 with an eSATA.

JonnyMG's right: it looks like an ad.

Usb3.0

It looks like a duck, walks like a duck it must be a duck :)

With two bay eSATA RAID0 I got 220MB and cost me lots less, no card or driver to deal with :)

You can get eSATA 6.0Gb for about 50 bucks here

You certainly have got a point there, BUT USB 3 isn't supposed to be a replacement for eSATA of any kind. That's a completely different story.

USB is supported by every computer available and USB 3 will at some point be the same. eSATA probably will never come to all Macs. It is pretty nice to finally have port that will be available for all computers that doesn't limit the performance of external drives, like it is the way with USB 2 and all kinds of FireWire.

I'm going to buy the set soon. No rush on it, but I do see the eventual convenience for a faster usb port for backups, quick file transfers etc. There are more and more usb 3 equipped items coming out now. Even Asus just announce a usb 3 netbook. there are also usb 3 thumbdrives. It's definitely not really necessary right now, but it would be nice to have. Opens up some new possibilities. For the Mac Pro, a usb ext drive is nice. For things like usb 3 sound, etc, I think Apple will have to support it first before you see 3rd party units.

related news:

According to Fudzilla, it is now an actual fact: Intel have made a volte face and decided to add with the chipset of the Sandy Bridge architecture the support of USB 3.0.
The foundry will not have any intention to communicate this until the very last moment, the time of the official release of the first products. This is certainly the best news than we have heard lately. If USB 3.0 is in the chip, Apple will have no reason not to support it. The next generations of Macbook Pro and iMac will thus be equipped with it!
