The Beatles on iTunes: Two Million Songs, 450,000 Albums Sold

Billboard briefly notes that Apple's iTunes Store has been seeing booming sales of content from The Beatles since its introduction last week.

The initial Beatles sales figures from Apple are in: More than 450,000 albums and 2 million individual songs were sold on iTunes worldwide since the Beatles catalog was made available Tuesday (Nov. 16), according to Apple.

According to the report, "Abbey Road" was the best-selling album in the United States, while "Here Comes The Sun" topped the song charts.

I don't know. The biggest seller in the UK, even now, is Sir Cliff Richard and he was knighted before Sir Paul McCartney.

Exactly. One reason why I've tuned out a little from news threads over the years because they're often filled with a relentless tide of a) people who haven't got the slightest clue what they're talking about or b) assume that because they have an opinion about something, that everyone else shares it, including people who don't post on tech forums.

Tip-toeing and cherry-picking through the chaff to find those who've got something of value to add and something we can all learn from can be a time-consuming affair.

Regardless of your musical tastes, why anyone who proclaims to care about Apple's success would begrudge them expanding their catalogue to include one of the most influential bands of the 20th century... well, it's a complete mystery to me.

You can save a little money by buying the box set on CD from Amazon, but then your music is in that old-fashioned "hard-copy" format so you have to rip the music to iTunes!

Amazon also sells the mono collection, which I've been contemplating but haven't yet purchased.

Just buy the CDs. Better quality, you have a physical CD, and as an example, you can get the blue album for £5 from high street stores (£8.99 on Amazon who always seem to be expensive for music and DVDs these days), on iTunes it is £17.99.

I'm not surprised, the Beatles are timeless and still retain their popularity. Its was a real scoop for Apple to get them, excusivily.

I love how everybody is like "I've got the CDs who cares" or "Buy the CDs they are cheaper". The Beatles on iTunes isn't for you. It is for people who don't buy CDs, it's for the future when the majority of people get digital music and it's certainly for a whole generation of kids who won't know what a CD is or care, in the same way that vinyl is now seen as archaic.

I'm sure I am repeating someone else's thoughts, but it doesn't seem clear to a lot of people.
