I just bought a new quad core 15 inch macbook pro and a mini dp to hdmi adapter to hook it up to a 32" tv as an external monitor...but when i hook it up and select 1080p the text is jagged and hard to read...where as my MBP display is nice and crisp...also at 1080p the refresh rate can only be 24hertz making everything laggy...however, go to 720p (which is kinda low and makes a huge tv feel small) the text is clear and the refresh rate is at 60herts...anybody have any suggestions?

Try turning off mirroring. Your MBP is 1440 x 900, so in mirroring, I'm guessing the TV is trying to resample the 900px to 1080px.

As for the 24hz, the TV is in "cinema" mode. You can disable it there, though I'm thinking you will have more options for the TV out with mirroring off.

Its actually not mirroring, I have it set up as an extended display...also, where would i find "cinema mode"?

Thanks in advance!

It would be an option on the TV. But, I'm surprised it used that mode without the source commanding it.

Sorry, I missed where you said you selected 1080p on the Mac. I was thinking it was on the TV.

24p shouldn't make the text jaggy, though.

What's the native resolution of the TV? Not all 1080 capable TVs have actual 1080px.
