Rules:

1. You may only submit one photo per contest.

2. The contest runs for exactly one week, from the first time stamp of the first post in the thread (this will be made by the winner of the previous week's contest).

3. Please refrain from commenting on the photos submitted in the contest. A good photograph is one that can appeal to someone who may not know much about the technical aspects of photography, so it would be best if the judge isn't swayed by someone else's opinion of the photograph.

4. The judge will choose his/her favorite at the end of the week, place a post listing it, and include a short synopsis of why he/she chose that photo. The winner is then responsible for choosing a new topic and starting a new contest thread, which will again run for exactly one week.

This week's theme: Cultures

There are numerous amount of different cultures in our world and this weeks theme is based on Cultures. I would like to see images of the local cultures around your area or from other places you have visited.

If you go here, there's no chance you will not love it. St. John's, NL is the main urban centre in NL, and it's a wonderful place to be. The people are friendly, and they have a culture that's completely unique from the rest of Canada. Most of my family lives there, and it's always a pleasure going there.

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir was inaugurated in August of 2007. The Mandir is comprised of 3 types of stone: Turkish limestone, Italian marble, and Indian pink sandstone. More than 34,000 individual pieces were carved by hand, shipped to the USA, and assembled in Lilburn, GA, like a giant 3-D puzzle.

Hot air ballooning is part of the culture here in Boulder, Colorado. Some mornings I will see six or seven balloons up in the air.

Pride of Panama

Visited a coffee plantation in Boquete, Panama. Its high altitude contributes to producing great coffee. Pride of Panama. Light, medium, or dark. Take it the way you want it.

Minneapolis May Day Parade. I know its a parade, but the local hipsters really DO ride bike like this around (Even in the winter!). Somehow I am YET to see one mount/dismount one of those things!

Taken on my honeymoon while in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Unfortunately, our camera was in a "waterproof" camera bag and developed a pinhole while photographing in the ocean. It didn't take much water to destroy the camera (but I saved the memory card!). So more than half of our honeymoon was taken with throw-away tourist cameras, including this shot! I loved the atmosphere, and the vivid colors here, and couldn't resist taking a photo. This group was playing in a 3-sided restaurant, with the front open to the street. They sounded very good, and even the little one was really playing and singing, and took his music very seriously.

Hope I just made the cut!

The sunday afternoon dog walk appears to have become a culture within our family.
