i remember back in iphone 3g it was best to restore as new when you upgraded the firmware as to not slow your phone down

is this stilll the case for the iphone 4?

so i upgrade firmware to 4.2 via itunes

They recommend JBing on a fresh restore but I did it over my tethered redsn0w 4.2.1 JB using the mac version and it works fine. The performance is exactly the same as before, great. I didn't lose any data and I never had the Cydia downloading issues (because I already had it).

Question - I'm a jailbreak newb so don't crucify please?

If I've never jailbroken before and I'm on IP4 v 4.2.1 can I jailbreak using this and then SIM Card Unlock?

Thanks.

I saw those too and shortly after a wall of text with some suspicious errors also, but all was fine. Just keep waiting and eventually does something else and reboots, then done.
