thank god for the windows version. I must have tried the mac version 100 times and it just stopped that that file missing part every time. first try on windows worked flawless.

What is the best way to upgrade from a JB'ed 4.1 from limera1n to this JB? Should I back up, restore and then update?

The same way as with every jb, assuming you don't care about unlocking.

1. Backup
2. Upgrade to 4.2.1
3. jb

CrAKD i read all these post's from start to finish. and i am just a newbie to the iphone seen .and don't have a mac so i was pissed when there wasn't a windows version for redsnow. because i posted awhile back about redsnow and they said that there would never be a windows version of redsnow.SO THANK YOU GREEPOISION for all your hard work.

Ages since I last upgraded firmware on my iPhone4, I have mine setup just how I want it on 4.1 with a lot of tweaks and mods from Cydia as well as theme setup etc. Would a backup in iTunes retain all of this including apps etc? I can imagine not.

1. Backup in iTunes
2. Upgrade and restore from backup
3. Jb

If not, would pkgbackup do what I'm after? If not then I think I won't bother upgrading as not really needed

As long as you use PKGBackup correctly (!) you will be able to move from 4.1 to 4.2.1 fairly easy. I did this and my tip would be to look really carefully at what PKGBackup suggests to Restore as by default it only restored parts of my full backup. Also, my restore of 70 tweaks took 2 hours over wifi.

Also, for the love of god - if you run a Theme - make a separate backup of your icon bundles. I didn't =/

Edit: no idea where that thumbs down came from

I've been happy enough using my 4.2.1 stock, however I wouldn't mind messing around with a Jailbreak - however I wouldn't be interested in buying any apps from Cydia! (All my apps from the AppStore are free) Are there many free apps worth getting that would warrant a JB?

I've purchased a few, but by far most of the tweaks I use are free.

Warrant a JB? Because of these tweaks, I flat out won't use an Apple product without the ability to jailbreak it, it's that big of a difference.

(Of course that's my personal preference, but the JB tweaks really make a ton of difference for me, and enhance the usability of the device(s) )

Cheers WhatAmI, think I will leave it as there isn't anything on 4.2.1 that I actually need, will probably hold out for 4.3 and go to that when its out - will defiantely look into pkgbackup properly when i do

TheOriginalKi - There are so many little mods and tweaks that make it worthwhile but the best are the paid for ones. Once you have used BiteSMS once you will never look back and its worth jailbreaking just for that.
