I've been looking at one of these for a little while, and think it could be a neat solution for the various bits and bobs I need to plug in sometimes, like my CFE card reader, the odd memory stick, etc. Currently using a small 3xUSB A and SD card hub thing, but could do with a couple of USB-C ports extra too. Plus; I was planning to add a SSD for a TimeMachine backup; I currently use an old HDD for that, but it's a bit slow so an SSD would be good for that, and for current projects (using a TB3 RAID0 drive for part of my main backup, but that's noisy). So this thing looks perfect. Are they any good though? Or to be avoided?

I bought the Hub that is a stand for the 24" iMac. Comes in most matching colors and has a slot for an NVME SSD. It has passthroughs for a couple of card types as well as USB A and USB C input. It is available on Amazon for about $85. I love it.

USB C Hub for iMac 24 inch 2021/2023, Minisopuru USB Hub Adapter Support M.2 NVMe SSD, iMac USB Hub for iMac M1/M3, iMac Accessories with USB C 10Gbps, USB A 3.2, SD/TF, M.2 SSD(Not Included), Yellow.

BillyBurke: by chance, did you try MORE than the 2TB MAX they describe for the m.2? I wonder why they reference that limit? Why not 4TB or even 8TB for fractions of what Apple charges for the same storage amounts? I'm wanting to gift one and 4TB is priced only a little higher than 2TB these days. I wonder if 4TB would just not register? I don't think it's a m.2 length issue. Heat?

I have one of these hubs as well. I put in a 1 TB just for my photo library and games. My photo library is less then 70 GB, so I really did not need above 1 TB.

It clearly states that 2 TB is all it will support.

I get about 800 MB/S read and write which is plenty fast enough for what I am using it for.

  • imac accessories support M.2 SSD: usb c hub allows you to expand an external hard drive through this imac hub to expand the storage of iMac to meet the different needs of iMac storage, compatible with M.2 NVMe SSD or M.2 SATA SSD, the maximum Support 2TB memory, transfer speed up to 10Gbps, and easy to install, it is an essential accessory for imac.
There are 2 versions of this on Amazon PULWTOP 7 which I have and Minisopuru which Billy posted. To me they look identical except for the USB-C male adaption. It’s a $89 hub, and in my opinion I really like it but the USB-C connection is not a solid connection that you would get on a $200+ hub. I like for the internal SSD and the USB-A. Its a $89 hub that meets my needs.

Thanks. I'd already ordered one anyway, seemed worth a punt for £70. As for storage; I use a Sandisk TB3 G-RAID enclosure with a basic Amazon Orico USB-3 enclosure with some large HDDs. I would like to replace all with SSDs, but the cost for similar amounts of storage is way more than I want to spend right now. What I want right now is a smaller SSD just for 'current projects' and Time Machine backup, so 2TB is more than enough anyway. I have a yellow iMac but bought the hub in silver as I use a VESA mount anyway; I figured the recess on the top can be used as a little tray for odds and ends, as I tend to have all sorts of little bits on my desk. And it will match my DVD drive. Yes; I STILL have a DVD drive. Deal with it. 🤣

Ooh; do I need a NVME SSD, or will a SATA one be fine? Will the hub make best use of the increased speed of the NVME?

I went with the 2TB mostly for cost. I believe I read somewhere that despite their disclaimer it will support 4TB. Amazon has a nice return policy if it doesn't work,
