So did I get it correctly that the 2x image is from the single camera whose lens are made so it would take "closer" photos and then it's just a regular digital zoom to 10x?
 
2x is the optical zoom...not sure if it's one lens or there is a physical shift of the lens to zoom.
Never ever ever ever use digital zoom on any device. It's horrible. It's always better to not (digital) zoom and just crop the photo to your liking. Digital zooming creates artifacts where the processor attempts to predict the details it can't see.
 
So basically nobody should ever zoom past 2x on the iPhone 7 Plus. Just crop later if you need to.
