I have an 2011 11" air (i5, 4gb, 128gb ssd) that I'm looking at trading for a 2010 15" pro (i7, 2.66 ghz, 4gb, 500gb hdd, a dent near a port). I want a 15" pro to handle more of my xcode, final cut, photography, etc. Portability isn't an issue because I use my iPad for when I really need to move around. Just want to know if I'm making a good choice.

Even with the upcoming refresh, I wouldn't be willing to fork down that much extra money to get a new model so that's not really on my list.

I think it's a great deal. The air is obviously lighter but severely limited in upgradeability, so you'd be getting a machine that could potentially grow with you. you can also have more RAM, larger HDD, of course the bigger screen, and generally more powerful because of the dedicated GPU with its own memory.

I have a 2012 11" MBA (2.0i7, 8GB, 256SSD) that I use primarily for travel. I also have a 2011 MBP (2.0i7, 8GB, 500SSD) that is more or less docked to my TBD. The difference in performance is pretty stark ... I'd certainly make the trade. The discrete graphics capability is certainly worth having.
