I use a 27 iMac for web design nowadays, what do you thing of using an 11" inch for the weekends for doing extra hours? I intend to learn Xcode an objective C as well and the any free time I have is at the weekends, a base 11 each will be enough?

Most web sites use a width of around 980px and do not scale the width if more is available. But intranet web sites often use a minimum with of 1280px. The 11" is capable of both so it's doable. It might be necessary to plug in an external monitor at times for testing but you should be able to write to the code. Anything short of a 17" LCD might require an external monitor depending on the resolution you are supporting. I don't think speed is an issue.

Processor wise it will be okay to run Xcode, but I think your biggest problem will be screen real estate, especially when using Photoshop/Illustrator.

Hi, I know about web design, there are several years of experience in my back :p

the issue is more about RAM and CPU as I use photoshop for the designs I then I code them with Coda, I used to work in a 15 MacBook pro before buying the iMac.

I intend to keep the iMac for day by day usage, I'm not going to trade the iMac for an Air, the Air is going to be an extra computer.

My iMac has 8GB of RAM so RAM is not an issue in that machine , but only 2 GB not upgradable ones on the AIR...I don't know how...

Is the 13in 4GB not an option? It's not much bigger and I think (as an amateur web designer working on a 13in Sony Z) that the screen real estate is pretty decent.

I use TextWrangler to code and Spaces to switch between browsers on my base 11" Air. It's fine for when I am on the go, but I prefer my desktops at home obviously.
