My 12.9" iPad screen shattered under unknown, mysterious circumstances. I was thinking about waiting until this came out in the Spring, but I'm glad I decided to find a shop to get it replaced at, especially now that it looks more like summer. There were also other rumors suggesting the price would be going up significantly. I can't see needing more than an M1, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, and MiniLED display in an iPad for many more years to come.

That being said, summer sounds like a WWDC announcement. Which makes me wonder if we'll be seeing something more significant from the iPad Pro software? Would love a macOS mode when using a mouse and keyboard, lol. Even if it's just "macOS Lite" so you can't fully install whatever. I would love to get an 11" version for travel and have it as a backup Mac if needed.

How come MacRumors Buyer Guide warns Caution about ordering the 11 inch iPad Pro, but says Neutral for the iPad Pro 12.9? Is there some chance that they will release an updated iPad 11 before the the iPad Pro 12.9?

Enough already with the iPad Pro hardware overkill.....

Apple,

If you're going to give me 4TB of storage, A bigger OLED screen, an M3 chip, a more fancy trackpad/keyboard cover, and a huge price..... please please........ let me boot into MacOS too so I can do some real work with it and actually make it useful!!

Why would Apple move to a 13” screen from a 12.9” screen??? The difference is minuscule. And consider all the retooling their vendors are going to have to do just for that small dimensional change. And then all the case manufactures are going to have to change all the cases again. How come nobody is questioning how stupid this is?

Thinner bezels, bigger display, same size device

Apple plans to release new 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models with OLED displays in mid to late 2024, according to a report today from DigiTimes, citing supply chain sources. The report indicates that some Apple suppliers have already started to expand their touchscreen panel capacity to prepare for the launch.

The report claims that the new iPad Pro models will be equipped with hybrid OLED displays that are made with a combination of flexible and rigid materials, which could contribute to a thinner and lighter design compared to the current models.

OLED technology would enable the next iPad Pro displays to have increased brightness, higher contrast ratio, greater color accuracy, and lower power consumption compared to existing models with LCD panels. Apple already uses OLED displays for the latest iPhone and Apple Watch models, excluding the lower-end iPhone SE.

iPad Pro models released in 2017 and later support ProMotion, allowing for a variable refresh rate between 24Hz and 120Hz. The switch to OLED would likely allow for the refresh rate to drop down even further to 10Hz or lower to save battery life. iPhone 14 Pro models can reach as low as 1Hz while in always-on display mode.

Currently, the larger iPad Pro has a 12.9-inch display, so the 13-inch model would be slightly larger. Apple reportedly aims to decrease the size of the bezels on future iPad Pro models, but it's unclear if that will apply to the next models.

The report claims that Apple suppliers will likely stop shipments of the current iPad Pro models with mini-LED backlighting by mid 2024, suggesting that those models might be discontinued instead of sticking around as a lower-cost option.

By now, it has been widely rumored that Apple will be launching new iPad Pro models with OLED displays in 2024. A previous report from Korean website The Elec indicated that mass production of the next iPad Pro models would begin in the first half of 2024, with the most likely launch months for the devices being March or June at this point.

Other new features rumored for the next iPad Pro models include an M3 chip and a redesigned Magic Keyboard with a larger trackpad and an aluminum casing.

Sounds like you want a MacBook, so buy one of those. Those of us who actually use iPads don't want or need a full fledged desktop OS on it.
Yep. I don’t want an iPad with macOS. I like iPadOS for what it does.

I'm just annoyed at the ever-shrinking options for displays that don't flicker and induce headaches. I'm really surprised it has been 6 years since the iPhone X and they still haven't released a single device with DC dimming instead of the awful flickering PWM displays.

So glad I locked in my 2022 iPad Pro last year. Looks like it's going to be the last good one before Apple ruins it with OLED.
You must have very high refresh rate eyes to detect flickering on consumer electronic displays.

I’m overly satisfied with my Mini 6 and 12.9 6th generation iPad Pro that I purchased in May 2023, for years to come. Even though I knew that the Mini 6 was almost 2 years old, I still purchased one. No matter what Apple releases for the Mini’s and iPad Pro’s, I’m not upgrading unless I can’t receive software updates anymore. I held onto my 2017 10.5 iPad Pro until I passed it down to my fiancé after upgrading to the 12.9 iPad Pro. The 2017 iPad Pro still was working perfectly, I just wanted a bigger screen, since my iPad is my laptop replacement. I do t have a MacBook yet, so I rarely use my Windows laptop.

I’m tempted to wait but I just got the monies for a Magic Keyboard and a 12.9 m2 which I know will last for 5+ years easily and knowning Apple the OLED will cost so much for a 13 inch. Probably will get the current one

Should OLED use less power than existing screens?
Usually OLED means more power consumption, not less. Plus consider that Apple is planning to stack 2 OLED displays in order to increase brightness. Apple will work some magic though I’m sure. My experience with OLED is that the color shifts and what looks great in some scenarios looks over saturated or greenish, in other scenarios. I own a Samsung Tab S8 Ultra and comparing to an iPad Pro 12.9, the Ultra cannot come anywhere close to properly displaying the color white. White always looks rather drab. But, if you watch a 4k HDR video of the beaches in Hawaii for example, the Ultra looks amazingly better than the iPad, IMHO. The blue color of the water is amazing! But the moment you go back to watching regular content the color shifting and poor whites return and look much worse than the iPad. In my opinion the blooming on the mini-LED iPad Pro is minimal and not really that big of an issue. IPad MiniLED > Samsung AMOLED

If they don't launch a larger model, it's gonna be damn hard to get me to upgrade my M1 model. It's already got plenty of storage and processing power. I just want a bigger screen for drawing.

Also I'm not really sold on OLED being an upgrade from the mini LED models, all things considered. Especially not if it's gonna come with a price increase.

It's 2023. Issues like this should not exist on highly expensive iPads.

The port in the middle is the weak spot. They should add MagSafe in the top left corner and next to it add a usb-c port. The power button can stay where it is, but move the volume buttons to the top below and next the power button. No ports on the bottom so that it can be use in portrait mode better, even with the keyboard attached.

Good ideas, that port in the middle of the soft aluminum was such an odd idea. I look forward to a titanium iPad as the weak aluminum frames have kept me from getting an iPad in the past.
