My contract is nearly up and I'm considering a new ipad, especially in the light of the upcoming iPadOS. I have the 2017 10.5 iPP which I've loved (even though I'm on my third model: first had bleed problems, the second developed the infamous bright spot above the home button). However ...

I'm not a huge fan of the home indicator along the bottom. I understand why it's there and I don't object to it on the iPhone, but I dislike its persistence once muscle memory's kicked in re: gestures. I have vision issues which means I don't cope well with intrusive areas of contrast. For example, in e-reader apps I always disable any app chrome when I can, such as progress indicators etc.

Some apps seem OK; eg, on Safari's Reader Mode the indicator fades after a minute or so, and only reappears on touch. That's how it should work IMO. I think other apps such as Procreate have also enabled auto-hide? I'm also aware of the Guided Access workaround.

My question is, which other apps allow that blasted bar to vanish? I'm particularly interested in:

- Affinity apps
- Pixelmator
- iPlayer
- Netflix, Prime etc (in video playback mode)
- Ulysses
- Scrivener
- LumaFusion
- VoiceDream reader

Needless to state, I'd also love to know if iPadOS has had any impact on how/when/where the home indicator appears, although I appreciate it's very early in the beta cycle.

You can hide the home indicator using guided access.
