iPad Pro 11 or 12.9 Pro ?

she's never used my 9.7 so she wouldn't know if she used it either. She used to use a 1st Gen Mini.
Best overall review of the 11 inch I have seen so far, from someone who has previously been a 12.9 user. He gives his thoughts on the 11 vs the 12.9 around the 8:30 mark.
Spoiler: He likes both and wants one of each. 12.9 excels for desktop use and 11 excels for moving around/portability and more casual use. Same conclusion as most here have stated.
As Dnichter suggested in his post above, this isn't to say that the 12.9 wouldn't work as a good portable or more casual device, nor that the 11 inch can't be used mainly as a work desktop device, but they seem to be aimed at two different use cases.
In the absence of a strong feeling as to which one prefers (and the inability or unwillingness to spend money on both 🙂 ), it seems to me that the above could serve as a good guideline and a decision could reasonably be made looking at which use case is the primary one.
Just more food for thought for those still on the fence.

At first I thought my 27” iMac was mega huge. Now I can’t imagine using anything smaller and wonder when Apple will make a larger one.
No matter how large a device feels in the beginning it will feel normal if not small in no time.
So I think the 12.9 will be the way to go.

It’s nice to see an 11” review as most seem to be for the larger model. Having used both now I think the summary is correct. I would add that the 11’,to me, felt more natural in portrait mode, while the 12.9 works better in landscape. In the end I think you will adapt to the one you pick.

My thoughts exactly. I won’t even look at the 12.9” because I know my use case and I don’t want to be swayed by the hype. I have a 13” MBP for more serious/complicated personal computer use, and a Windows Laptop my job provides me for work. My iPad is for couch, bed, toilet, and travel/mobile use. It’s strictly for note taking, browsing, email, media consumption, and light spreadsheet and document use. I have a sling for it and it goes with me almost everywhere. Although the 12.9 can do all of these things, it’s just not as practical in these use cases. Just like the 11 is not as practical for all day work and desk use. The decision was easy for me 🙂

But you don‘t carry around an iMac, you don‘t put it in your pocket, take it with you in meetings etc. big difference imo

Exactly. I have a 27" iMac and it still feels huge. I love it but it never leaves my desk like you said.

I have the 11 inch now. Was thinking about going to the 12.9. I have a 15 inch MBP that I use so that’s why I went with a smaller iPad Pro since it’s just entertainment, email and browsing type work. Seems much more portable. (BUT I STILL KIND OF WANT THE 12.9!)
Speak for yourself 😀 I 'two-hand' my iMac into every meeting-session I'm invited to. It's just one of my many ways of establishing dominance wherever I go.
True, but I was always one of those people who ridiculed those huge, jumbo-sized phones... until I got an 8 Plus. It seemed massive for a day or two, but now feels totally normal. And when I pick up my kid's 6s, or my old 4s, it feels absolutely TINY, and I can't believe I used to use something so small.

Good decision I would say stick with it. That is exactly my philosophy if I would have the 15" rMBP I would go for 11" iPad Pro and a iPhone XS not the (XS MAX). And I am all sorted

How many times have people flip flopped on the size? I’m back on the fence again after using the larger size for two days. Does anyone have experience exchanging twice at the Apple store? Do they charge you a fee or is it refused?

OK, a week of using the 12.9. I was very confident in my choice when I went into the Apple store and saw them next to each other. I had always wanted the 12.9 but previous incarnations were just too big, in my opinion. After using the 12.9 for work and play the last week (and reading all these gosh darn 11” posts in here), I started to wonder if maybe the 11 was the way to go for couch surfing and the like. BUT, I just really utilized the split screen functionality, for the first time, between Outlook and Notability and that completely sold me on the 12.9 - it was just so nice having both on screen so I could go back and forth from my handwritten notes and an email I was composing - and all without squinting or grabbing my glasses.
And, for home use, I’ve gone with the Magic keyboard at my desk and the iPad in the folio case, so when I traipse out to the living room to watch some Netflix or browse the web, the iPad’s pretty minimal and I don’t feel any weight. If I need to shoot off a quick note or email, the onboard keyboard, especially in the larger, 12.9 format, fits my needs just fine.
The keyboard folio will be used primarily for travel now.
So, after a few weak moments of waffle-itis, I’m fully in Camp 12.9!

I carry by iPad 11" with me to work every day. Had the 12.9" before and it was just way too big. New one is a little better but when I checked it out at the Apple store it's really still too big. The 11" is the perfect size between a laptop and a phone. If I left my iPad at home or at work all the time I may feel differently. But if you want something you can take with you daily, the 11" is a no-brainer.
Also, the split screen use cases are so rare (at least for me) that it shouldn't really be a deciding factor for MOST people. Keep in mind, you can still do split screen with the 11" just one of the apps will be the iPhone sized version.

The 11" is a great size. I find it a bit heavy to hold one-handed (more than the 10.5" it replaced) and I don't want to revisit the painful memories of my 12.9". If it is your primary computing device, I would say go for the 12.9". But if it is an iPad that is a companion to a device like a MacBook or PC, then get the 11". I love having something so compact that I can just shove in a bag and take notes and write when the mood strikes me. Really like the 11" form factor. Easy to read on as well. Split screen isn't the greatest, but it is useless in general for lots of things I need it for (having two Word docs side by side and such).
Also, given how easy it is to pair with an iPhone (for hotspot), it feels like it has LTE when I need it. This is one of the advantages of the Apple ecosystem that is a bit "intangible". When I had my Note 8 I had to turn on the hotspot and wait for AT&T to allow it. With Apple - super easy and makes me glad to not spend the extra $$$ on LTE and a monthly fee. I have been reading so many, so many comments here that Split Screen, split screen is iPhone Version on the 11". But when I do two apps split screen I do not see any difference in the split screen on the 12.9" and on the 11" as people say that 12.9" shows fill apps and 11" iPhone apps I do not see any difference between the two except the split screen size on the 11" would be smaller obviously because of smaller screen than the 12.9" what are the identifiers that the 11" shows iPhone Split screen and the 12.9" Full APPs
Apparently, also because the 11" split-screens apps in iPhone mode, rather than iPad mode.
EDIT: I may be confusing the floating-window with split-view

I cancelled my 1tb order and went for a 256 as I realised most of my cr@p is now in iCloud ( 2tb storage ) so whats the point of having all that spare space sitting around doing nothing ?

Good call on downgrading that storage. Saves a nice chunk of change.
Congratulations because you saved $600 for a spec bump that would have gone wasted. And if you're worried about 1.5 GB of RAM difference (since apparently .5GB RAM of the extra 2TB is going towards the 1TB SSD), just look at it this way: put the $600 in savings for the next iPad Pro you buy in a few years. That will most likely have 6GB of RAM, and there will be more "pro" apps that utilize it in two years time, hopefully. And unless you're using Photoshop or video editors, now, 4TB RAM wasn't being maxed out anyway. I think you made the right choice.

Ordered an 11” for pickup and when I got to the store and saw the two side by side I figured that there wasn’t much difference between the two. So I cancelled the 11” and grabbed the 12”. Been using it all day and now I feel like the 12” may be a bit bulkier then I thought. Will keep it for another week, but feel like I may just go ahead and stick with my original idea and get an 11”.
