Ya I did that, toggled it on a off. Seems like others are having the issue too. Maybe a software bug. Sadly I’m finding lots of bugs in ios13. Yikes

I think it also depends on how close the shot is. I found it works best when the camera app has all the extra info in the preview window.

Also once you click edit and then crop initially you don’t see any extra info. You have to actually start to crop or straighten to see the extra info.

I am not noticing any grainier/noisier photos on the 11 Pro Max.

I notice a significant improvement in photos coming from a XS.

And Night Mode is AMAZING!

:apple:

No kidding. Look at the noise coming from this shot on the XS Max versus Night Mode on 11 Pro Max. The scene itself isn't all that dark to begin with due to all the lighting, but Night Mode is far more pleasing.

The feature works here, strange. And yes, there are plenty of bugs, I hope 13.1 will fix some of them, only 3 more days. :)
Haha yep a couple more days. I swear I need to be a beta tester for all Apple devices. If there is a bug, I always find them. Even the tiniest obscure ones. Either that or they find me lol dun dun dun

Wow ya that noise is rough (obvious in the stucco). I do think the night mode pics are more pleasing and through my testing many of them are quite impressive but yes, noisy which I guess is understandable given the boost in processing. Did you see the noise reduction slider? Might soften it a bit.

The noise is in the XS Max sample, so I'm not so concerned about that since that phone is being sold. I'm impressed with what the 11 Pro is doing to reduce noise in the night mode shot! Look at the sky.

The XS had too much noise reduction. Strange blurring artifacts. Nobody looks at a PICTURE pixel by pixel. The overall picture looks better on the 11. 10X magnification looks better on the XS — but that's pixel peeping, not picture viewing

maybe. But the deep zoom and quality inspection (pixel peeping) is necessary if you plan to print any iPhone photos. The XS has the best camera to date on an iPhone.. the new iPhone 11 pro uses the same sensor that is in the XS Max, they just made the telephoto 1/2 stop faster and added a wide angle lens. If the 11 pro got new sensors, they would have mentioned that during the keynote. Really it’s just a cellphone camera, it will never measure up to my Sony A7rIII.

Using an app like slow shutter or average camera pro will produce the cleanest images you can get with a cellphone. However you will need a tripod for average camera pro because it will stack up to 125 images. Slow shutter cam will also create a clean image it’s 1/4 or 1/2 second exposure, just hold still. The final image should have many stacked photos that will hold up to level stretching and bringing shadows out. I’m sure some of y’all will probably not even waste your time with the tripod or holding something stable to get a good shot, but photography is about taking your time to get the best photo inspired of just snapshots.

Cell phone cameras will have noise just by the nature of the sensor. They are not big enough lenses to create noise free images. The bigger the sensor the more light the less noise. Unless we see a 1 inch sensor on a cell phone there will always be noise.

Ok, sample time: first photo is from Average camera pro, a stack of 16 photos, the second is slow shutter cam with a two second exposure (just randomly selected). Both are very clean. The purpose of this test and sample is to give you an idea of just how clean the camera can be if you take the time and set up your shot. A mini tripod (Manfrotto) with the MEphoto holder; both available on Amazon. I also use this tripod combo when shooting timelapse videos. I will get the iPhone 11 pro soon, for now, I like what I have and what I am capable of getting.

What lens is that on the 7R?

Yes the low light shots are better and I really like the night mode.
I also can’t figure out how to adjust the frame after the fact. I made sure it was enabled in settings but it doesn’t seem to be working in post. I assumed it would be in the crop section....hmmm I’ll keep playing around and report back if I figure it out...
if you are using the "Photos Capture Outside the Frame" feature that means your photos are automatically set to the HEIC mode instead of outputting JPGs. I had mine set for "most compatible" which outputs JPGS and then I chose "Photos capture outside the frame" and it automatically changed me back to the lower quality HEIC mode. Toggling the Photos Capture Outside the Frame mode to "off" did not change me back to JPGs. I had to go back and do that manually. Maybe that is causing the noise issue?
