MacGeneration (French) claims that a trusted source has leaked the specs of the new MacBook Pros. As summary of the new specs are provided:
- no more white MacBook (Apple goes back to two lines of 13" inchers)
- 16 GB SSD mSATA drives on all models to store the system
- Core i3 and third USB port on the 13" model
- Matte screen option on the higher-end 13"
- Option to replace the SuperDrive with a SSD on the 15 and 17" models
- HD screens on all models : 1440x900 on the 13", 1680x1050 on the 15"
- 200 to 300 grams lighter : 1.8 kg for the 13", 2.3 kg for the 15", 2.65 kg for the 17"
- Better battery life : 12 hours on the 13", 10 hours on the 15"
- 8 GB of RAM on the 17"
In addition to all these changes, MacGeneration cites another source who claims a "new technology" will make its way into the MacBook Pros. At this point, it seems likely that Light Peak will be introduced. Intel is reportedly holding an event on the same day (Thursday) to launch Light Peak officially.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148a Safari/6533.18.5)

Replace the SuperDrive? So there would be SSD and disc drives in the same compy? Otherwise, there would be no need to replace the SuperDrive right?

Here we go....

Hmmmmmmm.... what about new graphic cards on the 13?

What graphic card...

If they put sandy bridge, they have only two choices.

Dedicated graphic card or intel graphic card.

I highly doubt they have a room for dedicated graphic card in 13 MBP.

Also 3rd USB port sounds kind of fishy. I expect extra usb ports on 15 inch and 17 inch, but not 13 inch.

That's a pretty lousy res on the 13".

Sony Vaio Z can manage 1920x1080 on their 13inch model.

Not trying to to flame, just thought screen tech was one of Apples prides.

The IGP in Arrandale wasn't on the same die. It required a separate soutbridge chip to control other functions. This southbridge chip has been eliminated with Sandy Bridge because the IGP is on the same die as the CPU. They have plenty of room for a discrete GPU.

After about 130 DPI, the usability of the screen for anything other than watching videos is questionable. That 13" Sony has a DPI of 169.

I'm happy to see two things:
1. Matte screen
2. Consolidation of product lines: no more macbook

Should they just call them all macbooks now? Or will it be macbook pro for all?

The SSD option is too soon. The benefit is minimal compared to the loss of capacity. I'm more excited to see regular 2.5" hard drives available in 750GB at 7200rpm and 1TB at 5400rpm for reasonable prices. I've heard 7200rpm drives of 1TB are available but are very expensive.

Those are believable specs and I guess worth the price.

So the 13" pro now has:

1. Higher resolution
2. Great battery life
3. A higher specced processor
4. Lighter (WoW)
5. Other similar specs to 15"/17" pro

6. Lightpeak????

I can believe that. Now all I want is a redesign; I'm sure its there.

As the report also points that there is no macbook now.

If there's a redesign, I'm all for it.

For some reason I really doubt this report. Some random French site all of sudden finding out such details is suspect. Just my thoughts.

Windows can manage Resolution independence as well. But not Mac OS

Sweeeet! So glad I waited and didn't purchase last years incremental. This is like a REAL upgrade. Can't wait!!!! :D

hmm the only thing that is making me sad is the 16GB SSD, the extra USB port [although i hope they do put reasonable space between them] and the i3 and the HD screen...
i have the 2010 model, but i probably wont update it.. hmm but these problems except for the HD screen and the i3 can be easily remedied.. maybe it isnt so bad after all?....

well i hope all you waiters will enjoy this new MBP!!

And don't those Vaio's cost more than twice as much? I'm enjoying the 1440 res on my 13" Air. Any higher though and that's some serious squinting.
