Either it's a blind to make people uncertain about what Apple is going to release in the future or it is just sad.

I kinda like the idea of pressing dots instead of entering a passcode, but I doubt that it will ever happen.
 
I don't think you can cherry-pick a feature and condemn a platform. For example, when Android has native device encryption (encryption at rest / data at rest encryption / DAR / ect.) it won't be sad and it won't be "copied from iOS" and it won't be done to make people uncertain. The relationship between all the vendors and their OS's is incestuous and the goal is to meet and beat the competitions' functionality by taking the best and improving on the (while innovating).
 
Hmmmm, with all of the threads demanding that Apple implement certain Android features in iOS in order to "keep up" it seems strange to see a thread now condemning Apple for seemingly doing just that (if indeed they do)

Sort of a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario
 
Seriously OP way to put a stinky troll smell on your post. Why is this sad again? I can already do this on a jailbroken iPhone, and if it gets incorporated into iOS it will just be another useful feature.
 
@MacDawg, probably because the feature doesn't add any additional usability or enhancement - more simply it's just a copy of a "look and feel" item from Android.

Is this easier than numeric passwords in a retail environment? Not sure.

Agreed. To a certain extent all of the major OSes imitate each other.

Agreed. No matter what Apple does, people will come here and complain about it.

So they took an idea from Android. Not the end of the world. I like the pattern unlock idea. I had the Android unlock screen when my phone was jailbroken and I loved it. Clearly this is an idea taken from Android but who cares?
 
It's not identical, works on a gesture, so the lines could loop back over them selves unlike androids.

But similar.

Me? I have NoLockScreen ;)
 
AppleConnect is software for internal use at Apple. It's got the company directory and stuff in it. That gesture has been the way to login since they first started using iOS devices internally. (2008)
 
iOS and Android are both getting stale. Jailbreak provided one tap unlock for iOS since 2008. I like the Atrix's idea the best. Reads your fingerprint and no need touching the screen. Usually when I clean my phone, where the fingerprint marks start to appear is with that unlock slider area is. Androids and iOS are starting to look alike now. At least Microsoft came up with WP7 without looking like they copied Apple. The nicest OS is RIM's QNX. People may say QNX ripped off Palm and Apple, but QNX has YouTube videos about them since 2007!
