Synching my phone prompted iTunes to install a carrier update. Did the update and my 3G Internet seems to be faster. Speed test shows 0.95 Mbps when I normally would get max 0.50 Mbps. Anyone else do the update and get any bump in performance?

My wife and I just received the update as well. I haven't ran any tests yet, but our coverage is better now. Before the update we both would have a consistent 2 bars in our house, but since the update the lowest we have seen is 3 bars with it normally hovering around 4 bars.

I'll run some speed tests later, but it seems this was a positive update for us.

I doubt a carrier update would cause a 3G speed increase.
Download speed has to do with network traffic on a particular time and cell tower.
The carrier software update is more about the way the phone communicates with Verizons network.

If im jailbroken, should I download this?

EDIT: Im in NYC and I get consistent 5 bars. I doubt I need this..

I really have no idea. May be placebo effect here too.

im jailbroken. I did the update... nothing happened (just an upgrade in carrier number- 9.6- 10.1 I think).

Im gonna do the PRL lists update now to make sure everything is on the up and up..

I've never come close to these kinds of speeds. I was averaging .30 - .50 Mbps kinds of speeds. Anything above .50 is an eye brow raiser.

Yes, it wont mess with the JB.

A difference between 0.5 and 0.8Mbps is not that much.
Speedtests will vary thruout the day.
I know for VZ folks half a Mbps improvement seems like heaven:D

What about for us who didn't get the update? (got my VZW iPhone yesterday)

Wow, what is your secret?? My biggest complaint about my iPhone is how painfully slow the 3G service is... It's like living in the age of dial-up again

Check if it came installed. Go to settings, General, about, and "Carrier", it should say 10.1 if you have the most recent version.

I just received the Verizon carrier update I don't notice much of a difference in speed on my iPhone.

I tried updating last night and it shut off my internet. It said "you are not subscribed to an internet package". Very odd. But I just did a network settings reset and all is well.

Wow! I just ran a speedtest and downloaded at 1.34 Mbps.

Before the highest I had was 0.57 Mbps. Most often it was in the 0.30-0.50 Mbps range.

This morning I'm back to my same crappy downloads speeds of 0.30-0.50.
Guess it must have been the late night lack of users on the network.

I'm hoping that VZW gets it together and improves the download speeds cause this is really a joke. It's like we jumped into a time machine and we're using a ****ing dial up modem.

I just got this pop up on my phone. I hit "Update" but it doesn't seem to do anything. When I go into general and about, it still says I have version 9. Seems each time I go into general and come back out, it asks me again? I'm at work without ability to sync up with a computer.

It should be able to download its own update over 3G right? Doens't seem to be installing itself correctly.

Edit: I am Jailbroken if that matters.

I think you have to reboot.
