I'm starting to notice that my 2010 MBP is running about 10 degrees warmer after 10.6.7.

I usually idle around 36-39, now I am idling around 48 to 50

What gives?

I'm not seeing any temperature differences on my 15-inch MacBook Pro (Mid 2010).

The best thing I could suggest is to check the Activity Monitor to see if there are any runaway applications or processes, or shut the computer down for a few minutes and turn it back on.

you didn't check the temperature immediately after the upgrade did you?

if so then that's probably why.

another possibility is that perhaps 10.6.7 is displaying a more accurate temperature.

my temps were normal before, but I see that after the upgrade they seem to have dropped a little.

I just updated to 10.6.7 an hour or so ago and I've also noticed that my fan is running a lot. Just surfing the web and have the e-mail program open. Nothing major. Fan has been running quite a bit between 2700 and 3400 rpm. Typically, unless stressing it with iMovie or something, it used to sit at 2000 rpm.

I have a mid-2010 MBP 13" 2.4 GHz.

Mine went up.

Typically idled around 99-103F, now ~115F. All temps according to iStat pro.

Fan speed has remained the same, around 2k rpms, both fans.

This after an hour and a half after updating.

I have the 2.4GHz i5 also. I'm not going to install the update until I know more about this.

Can someone please post a pic of your Acitivty Monitor screen (making sure all processes are selected)?

Cheers.

Has fallen to ~99-101F now, ~3 hours after update. Weird. Def noticed an increase right after the update and would not drop below 115F, even with nothing running. It's at 99 right now as I'm online typing this. All seems normal again..

Same here - definitely running hotter with the fans on nearly all the time and my browser has been showing occasional 'flashes' - maybe something odd with the graphics? Using a 2010 2.66 i7. It was quiet and cool before this update.

I'm doing just fine post update? I'll report back if I notice anything crazy, since I was working in Premiere last night, so my temps were normally high.

But right now after just web browsing and itunes (with my dedicated GPU on by accident) I'm at 50 or so.

I was never able to idle lower than about 38-40 unless my ambient was really low.

To those reporting higher temps post-update, have you tried a SMC reset? That'd be the first thing on my list, personally.

I have a 13" 2010 MBP and just updated today. Seems to be idling about the same temps. However Im not sure if it was the update or something else but it's running like, 5x faster. Lol. Woot!

I saw a very real temperature increase today - haven't performed an SMC reset yet - has this been demonstrated to be a solution?

My idle temps today were about 15 degrees (F) higher and then all I had was a .pdf open, Firefox (not websurfing - just using Zotero interface) and some Safari tabs open in the background and my temps were up to 171 degrees F. The only flash that was running was Pandora. Flash is blocked at all times.

Still trying to see if this is a problem that will continue or if I can correlate it to a program or activity.

I rebooted - and have exactly the same things up and running again - and the temps seem normal. Very odd.

I haven't had the temp issues that others have reported - this is the first time I've seen something that was mildly disconcerting. I definitely shouldn't have been running over 170 doing basic word processing.

Would you be kind enough to post a screenshot of your activity monitor? (making sure to select all processes and showing CPU usage in descending order)

Cheers.

As soon as it happens again - I certainly will be happy to. I should have thought to grab a shot of it earlier this afternoon. I've been trying to recreate it tonight - but it's back to running perfectly for me.
