No, I am not disappointed. Firewire 800 can do 800 Mbps, which is still pretty fast. When the Thunderbolt drives arrive at up to 10 Gbps it will be a game changer. Considering, this is twice as fast as USB 3.0 is capable I am more then happy to wait a little longer for drives to arrive rather then settle for a lesser technology just because more products are available at this time. This is also on top of Thunderbolts 10 Gbps throughput, which does not exist on USB 3.0
... also the potential versatility of TB far exceeds that of USB 3.0. In 12-24 months time, USB 3.0 will look old.
Agreed, I've got some external storage that works quite well over USB 3.0. Why should I have to replace it because my Mac doesn't support a standard thats been out for years on the PC side of things?Like I said in another thread. I prefer something I can use today rather than the vaporware of tomorrow.
TB is not vaporware... it exists and works just fine today. Try plugging a monitor into your shiny new macbook pro for proofLike I said in another thread. I prefer something I can use today rather than the vaporware of tomorrow.

Grasping at straws with that one.

Life would be better if the 2011 product lines included usb 3.
What do people think? I think that they should have included usb 3.0 make life easier for consumers... i mean its quite obv apple has shifted to consumer markets now.
It's been out for years, yet my shiny new top-end MBP doesn't support it yet. Thunderbolt is cool in theory, but I could be using USB3.0 today.
USB 3.????? Not an issue for me. But I understand why some folks desire the slower connection.
