Life would be better if the 2011 product lines included usb 3.
What do people think? I think that they should have included usb 3.0 make life easier for consumers... i mean its quite obv apple has shifted to consumer markets now.

No because no one should've been expecting USB 3 until Ivy Bridge, which is when Intel will implement it.

It's been out for years, yet my shiny new top-end MBP doesn't support it yet. Thunderbolt is cool in theory, but I could be using USB3.0 today.

would have loved usb 3.0 but knew it wasn't coming. i will care much less once i can get a 1 or 2 tb external Thunderbolt drive.

also yes they need to do away with 5400rpm drives. especially since most people have not even noticed significant battery life drop from going from 5400 to 7200

No, I am not disappointed. Firewire 800 can do 800 Mbps, which is still pretty fast. When the Thunderbolt drives arrive at up to 10 Gbps it will be a game changer. Considering, this is twice as fast as USB 3.0 is capable I am more then happy to wait a little longer for drives to arrive rather then settle for a lesser technology just because more products are available at this time. This is also on top of Thunderbolts 10 Gbps throughput, which does not exist on USB 3.0

... also the potential versatility of TB far exceeds that of USB 3.0. In 12-24 months time, USB 3.0 will look old.

Like I said in another thread. I prefer something I can use today rather than the vaporware of tomorrow.

Agreed, I've got some external storage that works quite well over USB 3.0. Why should I have to replace it because my Mac doesn't support a standard thats been out for years on the PC side of things?

Sandy Bridge does not have the chipsets to support USB 3.0

Apple had to chose, support a tech we helped develop (TB) or add the chipset for USB 3.0

USB 3.0 chipsets will be built into Ivy Bridge processors

Bottom line... Apple couldn't support USB 3.0

TB is not vaporware... it exists and works just fine today. Try plugging a monitor into your shiny new macbook pro for proof :D

Why would you have to replace it? It's not as if your usb 3.0 drive is going to suddenly stop working, it will be just fine.

Post #35 from this thread sums it up pretty nicely.

USB 3.0 would've been convenient to your purchase rather than a show-stopper but I reckon somebody will probably come out with an adaptor/hub of some sorts before too long.

From a production point of view, many people I know (including myself) have been screaming out for this type of (TB) technology for years.

Grasping at straws with that one.

So if apple would have just advertised it as mDP you wouldn't be upset?

You have no idea what you're even talking about, evidence through two threads now but continue to whine that apple took nothing away from you by adding thunderbolt. All of your ports work just the same as last years macbooks, but in a month when thunderbolt drives come to market you won't have to replace your computer should you chose to buy the new drives....

How you find this a disservice i don't understand?????

Your question is:

Are you ANNOYED....

Merriam Webster defines Annoyed as:
1
: to disturb or irritate especially by repeated acts
2
: to harass especially by quick brief attacks

Using that as my basis, no it does NOT annoy me. Would I have liked it, sure, but it certainly does not irritate me on numerous occasions. I just accept it and move on.

No, Not annoyed at all. I knew there wouldn't be. Also IMO isn't USB 3.0 directed at the consumer market? To me Thunderbolt is Directed at the prosumer market. Again...IMHO

So ask peripheral manufacturers for a Thunderbolt-to-USB3 adapter. Considering Thunderbolt is PCIe over a serial cable, any USB3 controllers out there should be easily adaptable to Thunderbolt.

USB3.0, still USB and atleast where i live there are no devices for it except a few hard drives which only copy at USB 2.0 speed. So i don't care, also Apple couldn't put USB 3 in their computers as it doesn't arrive at Intel until Ivy Bridge (We think they said they would support it).

The lack of USB 3.0 does not annoy me. I am satisfied with 1394b.

What does annoy me are people on the train who wear too much cologne/perfume.

Well I'll admit I've yet to jump onto the new Macbook Pro bandwagon. If I did I guess I'd be more annoyed about the lack of Thunderbolt peripherals rather than the lack of USB3 ports!

Adam

Annoyed, yes. Surprised? No.

Thunderbolt is the superior interface but cannot entirely replace USB at this point, especially with only one TB port.
