We will agree to disagree.

what don't i know about it....?

already posted what thunderbolt can and can't do... in fact i've probably been the biggest supporter of thunderbolt in this thread if you actually read my posts.

Just because i disagreed with one statement "thunderbolt makes usb obsolete" don't try to hop on your high horse and tell me what i do and don't know. That statement is completely false. If it read "thunderbolt can/will/eventually might replace usb" then yes i would agree... as of today though, NO thunderbolt does NOT make usb obsolete!

Again i ask you though, how can thunderbolt replace usb when i can't plug ANY usb accessory I own into my thunderbolt port? Thanks genius...

I wish people would stop comparing "Thunderbolt" (name still stupid) with USB 3. They are different technologies, with different target markets. USB is for small consumer devices, like thumb sticks, and digital cameras. TB is for larger, more expensive things like large monitors, and professional grade storage solutions. One is not likely to supersede the other for a long time at least.

Anyway, the lack of USB 3 does not annoy me, although I am mildly annoyed that Light Peak wasn't added to the USB standard (as it was originally supposed to), which would have made it more likely to take off much quicker.

the foundation in charge of usb (USB-IF) are the ones who determined they couldn't use the usb connection... just want to get it out there that it was not apples, nor intels decision not to use it, in fact they wanted to use usb connectors for lightpeak.

True. Stupid USB toffs. All this effort from Apple and Intel, and chances are TB will fail because some fat, business-suited individuals think USB is perfect.

=> Annoyance.

And that is the way of the world, unfortunately.

Why would I want USB 3.0?

All the drives I have are USB 2.0, and I don't see me buying anymore in the near future.

They have usb 2.0. Since usb 3.0 takes the same space I dont see why not since it offer greater speed but I know SJ doesnt like it and prefer TB.

Do the new MBP/Imac even support it?

No.

We all know how SJ likes to maintain margins, protect price points and stuff but I don't think anyone's mentioned that to implement USB 3.0 currently, Apple will need to shell out money to Renesas or Fresco Logic for their technologies which also probably wouldn't do their relationship with Intel much good either.

Just an opinion.

I don't think many are annoyed that apple did not include USB 3.0. Many would however, be happy if they had included USB 3.0.

USB and thunderbolt complement each other perfectly. One provides low bandwidth to peripherals while the other is used in high speed data transfer.

I think that though apple would have had some trouble fitting the USB 3.0 chipset into its smaller laptops it should be fairly easy to fit it in a 17 or 15 inch laptop with only some minor rearranging. Especially imac or mac pro.

Most people buy USB because they know about it.

Something does not have to be the fastest to succeed; it only has to be good enough.
