As of Beta 3, iOS5 allows for custom SMS & Email tones, you can use any existing ringtone, including the stock tones!

Well, can I set the volumes separately??? It's driving me crazy....
On the Blackberries I used to have this was able to be done. Hopefully Apple carries this one step further and also includes creation of profiles.
I was doing it last week on my treo! It sucks because I keep turning the ringer down because my child picked this obnoxious trumpet sound for her texts... And it is louder than my ringtone, and then i miss phone calls....
At least I heard the doctor calling me back tonight.

Might I suggest other smartphone text sounds. For example, Windows Phone 7 has some great tones (short/electronic types).
Or, how about the "1-UP" sound from Super Mario Bros.
Nice, Now I don't have to change .caf and .strings files anymore just to change a tone & the name on the menu.

Funnily enough only one of the default ringtones doesnt preview when selected for a text tone... Marimba... the default. Only some of the text tones and my customs ones preview... its odd...

I too want the sound of the RINGER separate from the sounds of everything else. It drives me crazy. I need my other sounds higher but not my ringer. I lower my ringer, I don't hear everything else. Blah.

They have custom tones per Contact already in iOS 4.
Now we have custom text tones i think it would be good if we can post our favourite ones

As a goof i made one of the default "driod" tones that just says driod.
I see that now. The only way to access it is to hit the EDIT button and then it shows custom txt/tone. Wonder why it's not shown by default.
BTW - I have a ringtone that is not deleting off my phone even after I delete/remove it from itunes. I have tried everything to get rid of it. It won't go anywhere. Any suggestions guys?
