I've been temporarily using the Keyboard Folio as my case and while it's great at home, I feel like it offers very little protection for the Ipad when I'm traveling or needing to drop it into my backpack. I'm currently looking at the symmetry that just came out for it as it seems to be pretty light weight compared to the defender, but I know that the defender is a heavy duty option as I've had it before for my gen 1 ipad air.

Also, are there any decent keyboard/combo to look at for the future? I enjoyed the typing and quick shortcut on the folio, but the protection wasn't there.

Why not keep the keyboard folio and get a sleeve for it?

Depends on the workout you want to have, medium or intense?
"This is the letter I just sent Otter Box, 27 minutes ago, after receiving my new defender otter box."

I just received my beautiful Dark Lake Otter Box. Have loved them for years, didn't care that they are $50 and the competition at your heals is pricing the same thing around $20. I was faithful. After my new phone has not left our house since I got it 3 days ago, because they cost $1000, I get my New Dark Lake Otter Box in the mail and break it open like a child at Christmas, (I'm 48 years old), and start to marry the couple together in bliss, I harshly realize that it has NO built in Screen Protector. I thought it was defective or at least I hoped it was. I do not read the ingredients of a Burger King Whopper when I go through the drive thru each time, I just order one, though I have not had one in 3 years. The same was with my Otter Box. But now, I am supposed to stuff your new design down my throat? I am rough on phones, thus you were always my choice. No more. My wife just did the amazon return, and I bought an Armadillo case for $19.99. Has built in screen protector, with kickstand, and I got it in Hunter Orange, so maybe I can find the damn phone every now and then. And we saved $30!! BTW, I will tell at least 60 people about this and tell them about the Armadillo box also. I really can’t wait to also, and whoever came up with this idea needs to be fired immediately. Why not even offer the same built in screen protector and charge another $9 for that? Oh wait, we found an otter box for $70 and it doesn't have one either, so maybe you can charge $90 for the one with a Screen Protector?? I will never buy your product again. Happy New Year

So, this was for your phone? Or your iPad?

I bought the otterbox symmetry for my new 12.9 as soon as it became available. I’m satisfied with the level of protection it affords me relative to the weight. When I first got the 12.9 I thought I’d leave it home when traveling but in the otterbox case it fits in my messenger bag and it’s not too heavy for me, and I’m not strong. I don’t need to use my iPad while walking so I close the case whenever I’m on the move. If you need to keep it open and in use while moving you might prefer the defender.

The original case I was using on my 9.7 Pro, from STB, had a pencil slot. I dropped the iPad while walking with the case open and the pencil popped out and landed under the iPad. No amount of drop protection could help with that so I put the replacement in an otterbox and I’m more careful now.

Quite disappointed in the symmetry durability, had the case for a bit over a month and the edges of the cover have already started to fray/split. Which is very surprising to me as I've used otterbox products before and very rarely do they break down. Granted they were the defender series.

I got off the phone with otterbox and apparently they do not have any in stock for a warranty replacement, they redirected me to the apple store which would not accept a return/exchange on the case since it was outside the normal purchase date. So I'm waiting on otterbox to get the cases back in stock to do a warranty :(

I find the symmetry to be too slim for my liking, the defender is beefy and I seriously considered but as a pencil user I wasn’t impressed with the flap that covered the charging area being opened and closed often. I’ve used defender on my phones since the 3G, the rubber doesn’t last in thin, often bent sections.
I’ve opted for the UAG case.

If the Symmetry had a textured back rather than a clear one, it would be perfect to me. I can’t stand clear backs, feels cheap and scratches easily. I prefer a nice cloth or leather back.
