I can confirm that I am having the exact same issue as the other 2014 MM users. When I FaceTime (or audio call) anyone, they can hear me and I cannot hear them. I also don't do beta's as someone else said, so hopefully the 12.2 update does fix it for all of us and not just those with the various MacBooks. I'm glad to have run into this forum as I could literally find nothing recent anywhere else. Thanks Macrumors! I'll be calling AppleCare tomorrow to see if they'll help me even though this device is out of warranty / phone support timeframe.

I have the same issue - intermittent audio and crackling on FacecTime since 12.1 update. 2017 MBP - and I've just upgraded to the 12.2 Beta and the issue is exactly the same. Did not resolve for me at all. There's clearly an issue using the internal sound sources for this, an external speaker/mic and camera resolves it just fine.

I'm experiencing an issue with my 16" M1 Max MacBook Pro on macOS 12.1. FaceTime doesn't seem to recognize audio interface microphones.

I have a PreSonus and Scarlett Solo, neither show up as an input option in FaceTime. However, other apps in macOS work just fine. System preferences, QuickTime, google meet, etc, all work just fine. Anyone else experience this? Searching around I feel like I'm an outlier.

Tried all the usual things. Rebooted, tried various mics, interfaces etc. Trashed preference files, reinstalled macOS. Nothing.

Interface shows and works fine - sound input in system preferences:

Not listed in FaceTime.

Hopefully not. I mean,.. how could they ...
Half of Mac users didn't have iCloud tabs for at least six months at the end of 2020 and into early/mid 2021. My username sarcastically references the debacle. Apple's QC has gone downhill big time in the past few years, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if it took them months and months to fix this.

In my case, I'm running Monterey on a M1 MBP. I have DisplayLink, BetterDummy, and MonitorControl installed so I can use 2+ external monitors.

I went to Notifications & Focus under System Preferences, and checked the box "When mirroring or sharing the display". I start getting FaceTime calls again!

I have the same problem on macOS 12.1 and a 2014 Mac mini. I can't hear the audio from the other person on FaceTime. It worked fine on 12.0.1.

Camera is a Lenovo FHD webcam... although I don't know if the camera would matter because the problem is I can't hear audio from the person on the other end. They can hear my audio from this camera's mic just fine.
I installed 12.2 beta and it all works fine now.
Good to hear. You have a native FaceTime camera though. I wonder if it will be fixed with those of us with third party devices (Mac mini owners, etc.).

Upgraded to Monterey 12.2 on my 2014 Mac mini with Lenovo FHD Webcam (UVC). Audio is now working in FaceTime.

Maybe you use the mic from the Lenovo? Seems to be a problem with the internal audio (speaker/mic) devices. E.g. if I use my AirPods connected to the iMac, I have no audio problems during FT.

The problem was that I couldn’t hear the audio from the other person, so it had nothing to do with my camera’s mic. They could hear me just fine.

However, it is fixed in 12.2 for me.

Have now updated to macOS 12.2.1 and the same audio problem still persists with Facetime calls.

I have managed to fix this by going to the Audio MIDI setup app and changing the output audio format to 44,100 Hz. Tip thanks to Ty on the Apple Support forum board.
This is for a 2019 27" iMac

Hello,
I also have the same problem on my iMac 27 (2019). The Audio MIDI tip is working for me too. Thanks you.

Same issue here. Using a Mac Mini late-2018. As others have said, my audio-out works fine with other services like Teams and Zoom, but fails each time with FaceTime. Audio-in works so others can hear me. Very frustrating.

I have noticed that although this issue is “fixed” for me by setting the audio output to 44,100 kHz in the Audio MIDI setup, that this setting is changed back to 48,000 kHz after playing Elder Scrolls Online via Steam. Running Steam itself is ok, so it is something that ESO is doing to change this setting.
Maybe other software is also changing this setting? Might not be Apple’s problem after all.
