it’s for the 2020 model but fits 2021 too. Some say a bit tighter but good value for a new keyboard ! $150 off $349 retail. Open box even cheaper (as low as $154 I think)

I don’t even have a 12.9 but wanted to give people a heads up.

$199 again at BB
A great bargain. I’m using mine, which I bought last year when it came out, with my 5th gen iPP and it works flawlessly with no discernible drawbacks - closes as smoothly as it did on my 2018 iPP, no contact between keys and screen, absolutely perfect. If I didn’t already have mine I’d jump on that BB deal.

I just bought the 2021 version for my 5th gen 12.9. Trying to see what the difference is between the 2020 or 2021 version?

I believe those with the new MKB have said that when closed they can see a small gap when looking from the side, perhaps to accommodate different thicknesses of screen protectors. With the original MKB there is no visible gap when closed and looking from the side. That’s the only difference and some screen protectors are still accommodated without issue from posts here. The only real difference is the white version. I prefer the black and when you can get the 2020 for less money that’s clearly the way to go.

Thanks for the reply! I prefer the black one as well. I just ordered the 199 one and will just take the 2021 version back.

Just bought the new MKB in white for my 12.9” M1. Used it for two days, love it. Just wish Facebook would show like a normal page in the browser and not have to use the app, but not many drawbacks that I’ve noticed so far.

I also picked one up at Best Buy with the discount. I love it so far! The only thing I wish was different is, give us a function row, with esc button, be able to adjust sounds and brightness without touching the screen. My guess is, that would be coming with the new Magic Keyboard next year. But, overall, its well worth the $200 so far.

Apple has had so much time now to include the kind of function keys that you mention. It’s not like those keys are cutting edge technology. My guess is that to match their overall design for function and compactness that they have no interest in ever offering such keys. But Apple does change things up occasionally so who knows. But it’s not worth waiting on some imaginary change if you want or need such a keyboard now.

I have read a prediction that a supersized iPad Pro is in the works which could possibly have such a MKB as a compatible product. But that would be way beyond my needs.

I mean, that can still deliver the Magic Keyboard with those functions and not increase the size much. The Logitech Combo keyboard isn’t much bigger than the MK, and the Combo has the function row and a bigger trackpad.

But it is bigger and not as visually appealing. I think that’s a major factor in Apple’s decision. They could shake things up but unless they could get all that into the same form factor I wouldn’t be interested. I tend to have the whole combo close enough to me that getting to control center for those extra row functions is almost as convenient as having the keys themselves. And based on the sales success I don’t think they feel any pressure to change anything other than the price but even that didn’t seem to be much impediment, of course those who can find the discounted 2020s can circumvent even that. Pricing was the only stumbling block for me, but I did get past it.

Based off the picture, they likely could put it in the same form factor. Look at all that space above the number key on the MK. Do you mean to tell me they couldn’t add a function row there? I’m using my MK right now, with it tilted slightly downwards and its enough space for another row.

I’m guessing there’s more involved than just physical space involved or Logitech would have made their version smaller. Many have already complained here and elsewhere that that their fingers bump into the bottom of the screen when typing and the angle that mine sits at in use would make it awkward for me to reach another row. As long as adding such a row didn’t make the keyboard awkward to use for me I wouldn’t be opposed, except for the price. But unless mine falls apart for some reason I wouldn’t be looking at such a thing for several years or more. And by that time the super iPP may well make an appearance with an MKB that includes everything you can imagine. Again way beyond my needs. And for those that absolutely need those function keys in the 12.9 the Logitech is the perfect solution.

Thanks for the picture! I have the 2020 MK. I really like the idea of function keys. But I'm a little worried the Logitech Combo might not fit in some of my sleeves and bags, as some are a tight fit for the 2021 iPP 12.9" with the 2020 MK.
