Recently my Smart Keyboard has stopped being recognized by my iPad. I can’t type on it, and “Device Not Supported” constantly pops up on my screen. After a little research this seems to be a fairly common problem. When I contacted Apple support they requested my serial number on the bottom, but it’s so small and worn I couldn’t read it. She basically said I would have to take it into Apple store and hope they will resolve my problem. Anybody else have this issue? It will also intermittently work, in fact as I was half way through typing this post it recognized it and am able to finish typing on my Smart Keyboard.

Good move is to photo the serial of your keyboard - since it will bу worn out. Especially since Apple extended the period of warranty repair for those little guys for up to three years.

Sorry this wont really help you, but just a headsup for whoever bought ASK recently.

Good luck replacing that one.

Take it back to the Apple Store, they will replace it. This happened to me and got a replacement right away.

I’m on my third one.. While I absolutely love typing on this keyboard, is clearly wasn’t meant to last...

Three 12.9” iPads (2017 model) and 4 different smart keyboards replaced and they all have the same problem. Doesn’t drop the touch screen keyboard and recognize the Smart Keyboard consistently. Usually have to disconnect the iPad from the keyboard, reconnect and fold up again for it to work. Can’t help but to conclude this is a design or software problem and not isolated.

For those having issues with the keyboard being recognized by the iPad, you may want to try setting up the iPad as new. I have a (9.7") Pro and the Smart keyboard was exhibiting the exact same symptoms. I went to the apple store, but they told me it wasn't covered, and it would cost $129 to replace, but that it MIGHT be a software issue. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I decided to try the software recommendation (wiping the iPad & setting it up as new), and so far (one week) the keyboard has been like new, not one single disconnect. I'm not sure what happened, but I originally set up the iPad as a restore of my iPad mini, and something must have gotten corrupted. I'm glad I took the apple store's recommendation of wiping the iPad. If I would have just bought a replacement keyboard, I think the issue might not have been resolved. Anyways, hope this helps someone else.

When did you buy the smart keyboard....

FYI .... but it looks like it depends on your apple ipad model.

(A) 9.7-inch (Early 2016) and
(B) 12.9-inch (Late 2015) iPad Pro models
