Can someone help me solve this issue?

My wife got a new 1phone 5s. I restored her phone to previous backup; she had a lot of photos; about 12 Gb's. In Itunes, I checked the box that allows to pick which session of photos you want to load. It had about 1.5 Gb; It wouldn't take off the other 12 gb and replace them with this smaller number.

The problem is, no matter what I do, her phone has 12 gb of photos; even if I uncheck all photos, the 12 gigs stays on her phone.

    Suggestions?

Does she have a lot of photos or videos in her camera roll?

Looks like those 12GB are from the Camera Roll.
if you have a Mac use iPhoto or Image Capture to transfer the photos to your computer or Photo Library, then delete them from the iPhone (if you want to recover the free space.

Maybe some videos recorded with the iPhone are also part of the 12 GB.

I found the camera roll; There's like 1600 photos in that; I am having her delete them.

Just be careful to delete them only after you are sure that you have saved the ones you want to keep in your computer.
After you delete them from the iPhone they will be gone.

Yes please be sure they have been saved to the computer you use to sync the phone to iTunes. Do not lose your photos.
