Just want to say "hi" first! And now the question or questions.....
I've been searching for the different Superdrives that will fit into a 12" G4 iBook to upgrade it from the combo drive. After 3 or 4 days of research and also searching this forum I really haven't gotten anything specific. I also did a search through xlr8yourmac.com and have had equal success with information!
So far I've obtained MANY models that are considered Apple Superdrive that are recognized by OS X as Apple Shipped. Here are just as small sample of what I've found:
Pioneer DVR-A09
Pioneer DVR-K06PD
Pioneer DVR-K05RA
Pioneer DVR-K04PC
Pioneer DVR-110D
Panasonic UJ-835-C
Panasonic UJ-85J
Panasonic UJ-845-C
And there are more derivatives of these models as well as other models that I have not listed just for the interest of time. There are different letters at the end of all the model numbers that I can only derive that they may be a specific series for Mac only, PC only, Mac and PC, etc.
What i'm looking for is a replacement for my combo drives that will burn DVD's! If it does dual layer DVD's it would be a bonus! Again, I have searched the internet for specs on all the Superdrive slot loading replacements and have come up with really very little or nothing at all! I do realize that most or all the units are discontinued and the only places that I've seen them are in refurbished sites as well as ebay. If anyone can assist in a little more information or even a recommendation it would be greatly appreciated! I have one iBook in pieces that I'm upgrading and have another that I would like to upgrade.
And I really don't want to upgrade to a MacBook right now because I like my iBook so much! 🙂
