I actually used MB 2016 8/256 for some office work. My impressions were:
1. Advantage (the only one): lightweight, compact
2. Disadvantages: short battery life,
3. small (inevitably) display
4. Some lags in using modern software especially MS Teams, Word, Outlook (we all know MS)
So after using it for a while, I moved to MBA M2, then Macbook Pro m3 and finally now MBA M4 15 inch 16/512.
My conclusion: if Apple reintroduces 12 inch with a larger display like 12.9 inch display, A18Pro CPU (close to m2 performance), 16GB of RAM and very long battery life, it can be a serious MBA competitor, not just a basic low cost machine. The original Macbook is outdated, but the new version could be a hit. We should forget the original 12 inch Macbook and look forward to the new 12 inch A18Pro model, as this is the future. Hopefully, we ll know about that just in 2 months.
